I booked this and received a confirmation email. Three and a half hours before it was to begin, I got an email saying the booking was cancelled because it was unable to be confirmed. We were counting on this to be our transportation from Nairobi to Mombasa and had to figure out alternate plans at the last moment.

As part of our Kenya tour, we took the train from Emali to Mombassa. If you have time and are interested in the landscape, country and people, we would gladly do it again. However, even the (cheap) first class cannot be compared to European standards. The carriages are very full, poorly air-conditioned and on the sunny side you should close the curtains (i.e. no view) as otherwise it gets too warm. In summary, an experience we would do again. If you only have a few days in the country, we recommend a domestic flight from Nairobi or from the many airstrips to Mombasa or directly to Diana Beach.

I booked this because it promised to provide two first-class tickets. The driver showed up telling me that they only had second-class tickets and offering to refund the difference between the first and second class ticket. That was not acceptable to me (I could have got second class tickets myself), so I refused this offer. I was however charged and have been told that I can't cancel my booking / get a refund. That was despite the fact that the service I booked was not provided. I will be pursuing this with Tripadvisor

We really enjoyed the tour from the fort to the busy, vibrant, colorful market. Mr Humphrey is a wealth of knowledge, very informative, friendly and on time. Most importantly we learned a lot about the history of the town. Thank you Mr Humphrey for this wonderful experience!!

The train from Nairobi to Mombasa was on time, clean, and comfortable. We were in first class and the service was good with drinks and snacks passing by regularly . The bathroom was clean and well stocked. The scenery was exciting and the train passes along one side of Tsavo National Park and we saw zebras, giraffes, elephants, and a variety of antelope.
From the beginning it was an easy process - we arrived 2 hours early, breezed through security (they were respectful and professional) - we had time for a relaxed lunch and the service was attentive.
My daughter and I highly recommend taking the train to Mombasa - seeing the countryside was such a treat without the craziness of traffic!

The information gap was an issue. We thought we had a ticket - not true as we had to print another at the station. That took time. Departure time that was indicated was wrong by 20 minutes. We were rushing so
much that we were the last passengers to board and without the porter that we paid helping us we would have certainly
missed the train. No drinking water was offered as stated.

Very good experience, comfortable first class experience between the 2 cities.

The only thing they need to introduce on the First class is WiFi facility.

The first brutal attack on the senses starts at the car park..You have to get out and have yourself and the vehicle frisked.

The second is a shed reminiscent of a detention centre. Here you are frisked again.
After you bag has been sniffed you can proceed to having them x rayed and yes frisked AGAIN .

Then you are permitted to print your ticket at some screens.
Then you go upstairs and over to the train where again. You've guessed it.Frisked AGAIN and bags xray.
So for a domestic train ride you need to have your luggage x rayed Twice and you are frisked four times.
You cannot go anywhere on the train except your own carriage. But there is a restaurant car?
There is also no WiFi service.. no where to smoke.
The whole process is OVER CONTROLLED and just silly.
It feels like your getting on the train to jail
