We were two completely inexperienced climbers (mother and daughter, 17/43 years old), who had only been in climbing and zipline parks before. We went with a guide, Olger, who was very good. Despite the elevation gain, the trip was fun, challenging and a lot of fun. We were unsure about the overhangs, but these weren't as bad as we feared and we got over them just fine. Strongly recommend!

The Romsdalsstigen West Wall is a fun challenge for experienced via ferrata/rock climbers. If you can climb 5.9 in the gym and 5.8 outdoors and have above average physical conditioning and stamina you can do it. Took us 2 hours 45min from the end of the pavement to the gondola but we were NOT in a group and didn’t get stuck behind anyone. I suspect this could truly take the 5-6 hours the website claims in a group.
Things to know:
-There is no parking at the start and the start is 1.2 miles from the gondola ($350 NOK) which you most likely want to take down after the via ferrata. If possible have someone drop you off at the start of the via ferrata to skip a long walk through town.
-There is a decent amount of very steep uphill climbing at the start and in between sections of the via ferrata which was the most difficult part for my husband who is a better climber than me
-I could see the via ferrata being difficult if you are shorter than 5ft 4in. There were many sections where I could just barely reach the next clip or hold. If you are shorter I recommend you be a better climber than stated above and be able to use the natural rock more
-This via ferrata uses a lot of traditional metal bars/rings/foot holds. There are some brief sections that rely more on natural rock
-There are several (I think 4) overhangs that were challenging but have very good holds. You need a little extra upper body strength to get over them
-This was fun even on a misty day and kept the wall cooler. You can always take the gondola back up another sunny day and hike the ridge to get the view !

One of the greatest experiences of my life! We had some previous climbing experience (mostly indors/climbing parks) but we had never tried a Via Ferrata before so we bought climbing trip with a guide. Our guide Axel made all the difference. I dont’t think I would have made it without him. He described the route a head and could show us how to climb the tricky parts.

The trail consists of three parts, and the secound part has two small overhanging areas.

I will recomend using a camelback water system for easy water access and using the restroom before start (you can NOT take the harness of during the trip.)

This was such an incredible experience! Epic views in every direction until we finished in the clouds at the top! The route was quite wet & muddy in places after a heavy rain the day before. This made everything more slippery so I was especially thankful we had a guide for support. Well worth it - a true bucket list item!

A via Ferrata with great views. Even if it was wet we were able to complete it safely as it is well planned out and you barely use the rock which was wet and slippery. There are 3 sections of vertical walls beautiful and very exposed. Gloves to be used if you do not want blisters especially on a wet day! We thought it would be crowed but we were the only ones on the wall. I definitely recommend the west wall for those who enjoy climbing regularly and have via Ferrata experience :)

This was the absolute highlight of our trip to Norway. I couldn't stop smiling the whole day. Our guide Kristen was very knowledgeable, safe, and helpful. They kept the group size very small which I think is necessary for this activity. We only had 4 people in our group plus our guide. We ended up choosing the West Wall and are very glad that we did. The views were absolutely amazing and the climbing was a blast. You do need to be very physically fit because it is physically exhausting. There is a lot of steep hiking and then the climbing walls are vertical. However you don't need any climbing experience to do well on the West Wall (although it would help). Even though it is a vertical wall they have added hand and foot holds exactly where you would want/need them. The whole route is well put together. The video on the website gives a really good idea of what you will experience. With the walk down at the end, the whole trip took about 6 hours. You can pay to take the gondola down at the end instead if hiking which will save about 45 min to an hour. If you have endurance, a sense of adventure, and a love of heights then this is the adventure for you.
