1. Popcorn Playa
We also visit the now world-famous popcorn beach in Corralejo. The millions of small calcareous algae that lie on the beach look a lot like popcorn and are frequently photographed by everyone. The popcorn beach has been given its own hashtag on Instagram with #PopCornBeach and has also attracted the Spanish and foreign press with articles in the Daily Mail and attention on Fox News in the United States. Where they come from ? These calcareous algae almost certainly come from the bottom of the so-called 'estrecho de Bocaina' that separates Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. There is a forest of rhodolites that guarantees the fishing reserves of Majanicho and the coast of the municipality of La Oliva in general.
2. Dunas De Corrallejo
The Corralejo Natural Park is a protected area on the island of Fuerteventura. It has more than 2600 hectares. It was classified by Enesco as a natural park in 1996. The dunes of Corralejo are located in the north of the island, in the municipality of La Oliva. They are, after the white sandy beaches, the most important tourist attraction of the island. They are the largest dunes in the Canary Islands! These large dunes have an organic origin because they are formed by the disintegration and pulverization of shells of mollusks and other marine organisms with an internal skeleton. We willl stop if the weather (wind) is perfect!
3. El Cotillo
El Cotillo is a village on the northwest side of the Canary Island of Fuerteventura. Thanks to the strong wind and waves, this quiet town is popular among water sports enthusiasts. El Cotillo is surrounded by some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, including “la Concha” and “los Lagos”. These are bays with clear sea water and white sandy beaches. Torre del Tostón is the most prominent monument in the village. It was built in 1700 to protect the coast against pirates from France, England and Barbary pirates. The first mentions of el Cotillo date back to the seventeenth century, when it was known as a fishing community. It was located in an area where ships docked, called “Puerto del Roque”. The island council of Fuerteventura established in the same area the so-called “Casa del Puerto del Tostón”, which became one of the ports of the trade route between Madeira and Fuerteventura. Since the mid-twentieth century the village has been called “el Cotillo”.
4. Mirador Morro Velosa
Morro Velosa is the highest viewpoint, the so-called "Mirador Morro Velosa" offers panoramic views over the north of the island, including the dunes of Corralejo and the villages of Antigua and el Cotillo. Artist, sculptor and architect César Manrique designed Morro Velosa, which consists of a lunchroom, gardens, geological information about Fuerteventura and a scale model of the volcanic island. The Morro Velosa viewpoint, located on Mountain Tegú with an altitude of approximately 645 meters, is located between the Betancuria Rural Park and Valle de Santa Inés.
5. Mirador Guise y Ayose
The twin statues of Guise and Ayose represent the two ancient Kings who ruled the two Kingdoms of Fuerteventura, prior to the conquest in 1402. Standing about 15 feet high (4.5 Meter hoog), they make an impressive sight at this small mirador. The views from here are good but parking is limited. Sometimes we can not park but pictures you always can take !
6. Volcanes de Bayuyo
We see almost all volcanoes on our tour. Here is an overview of all our volcanoes (23). Ask your guide all about them.. 7. Betancuria
The old historical capital, Founded in 1404 by the Norman Knight Jean de Bethencourt, the town's location was chosen for its secluded inland position to offer a better defence against pirate attacks. Today the entire local economy depends on tourism. A must to walk on the old streets, absolute beautiful place to visit! The oldest town in the Canary Island, until 1834 the capital of Fuerteventura. Beautiful scenery, gift shops... Your guide will tell you all about it.
8. Mirador de las Penitas
AN other great Panoramic View on this daytrip. From the Las Peñitas viewpoint, in Betancuria, you will see an evocative view: a green oasis in the middle of the desert. The underground river that flows under the Las Peñitas ravine is created by human hands and forms a small lake dotted with native plants. The open esplanade of the viewpoint is the perfect place for taking quality photos. Home of the chipmunks.
9. Faro de la Entallada
A spectacular way up to the lighthouse! Building is from 1955, built by architect Carlos Alcon, who incorporated elements of Moorish architecture into a unique design. Contrasting brickwork and whitewashed mortar have been used to create a striking exterior facade. The colored stone comes from the village of Tetir, in the center of the island. Located on high cliffs it offers a focal height of 196 m above the sea; the third highest in the Canary Islands. The light is visible for 21 nautical miles and consists of three flashes of white light every eighteen seconds. Did you know that the lighthouse is considered the closest point in the Canary Islands to Africa, 97 km to the east. Not only did it function as a maritime light, but it was also historically used as an aerial beacon. Planes from Gando airport were sent through the lighthouse towards the Spanish Sahara, including those used in the Ifni conflict (The Forgotten War in 1957). Your guide will tell you all about it.
10. Playa De Ajuy
Let’s visit the natural caves ! Lunch after! Puerto de la Peña is a small settlement of Ajuy that used to serve as a port of the old island capital of Betancuria. The port was later raided by pirates. Caleta Negra ("Black Bay") lies 2 km from Ajuy. Near this bay there is an old lime kiln. The limestone from Ajuy was considered particularly pure and was shipped from this place up until the second half of the 19th century. You can walk on the limestones to the deep and dramatic caves carved into the softer parts of the limestone cliffs by ocean winter storms. Don't feel like walking? No problem, there are plenty of terraces to enjoy a nice refreshing drink on the black volcanic beach. Time for lunch! (not included). There are some restaurants to choose from... We go to a typical Canarian inexpensive restaurant on the beach. Here you eat and drink with locals at still unexpensive prices. Typical local like fresh fish and goats meat or cheese.
11. El Centro de Interpretacion Poblado de la Atalayita
The village La Atalayita receives its name from a small promontory near the town that must have served as a surveillance post, since from its summit it is possible to contemplate the bay of Pozo Negro. The aboriginal town of Atalayita is one of the best preserved archaeological sites on the island. Its occupation dates back to the time of the Mahos, a people of Berber origin who occupied the island before the conquest. The town is made up of about 115 structures of diverse typology and complexity that were used by the ancient settlers as homes and, later, used by the local shepherds, dedicated to livestock care and maintenance activities. 12. Tindaya
We visit the identical, typical old Canarian village of Tindaya and its famous inhabitants. For the pre-Hispanic Canary Islanders, the village and volcano of Tindaya on Fuerteventura was a sacred place, because they created a kind of open-air temple on the top, where they performed all kinds of rituals. With these rites they summoned the rain or predicted astrological phenomena.
13. Montana de Tindaya
The Tindaya Mountain (volcano) has been declared a Natural Monument for the scientific importance of its geomorphological structure, but also a point of cultural interest for its archaeological values, especially for the abundance of podomorph petroglyphs and the sacred character that the majoreros (local people ) to give. the first pre-Hispanic inhabitants of the island. It also has the presence of a rare endemism such as Caralluma burchardii, a fleshy plant that resembles a cactus. 3 km south of the city of Tindaya, at the foot of the 3 million year old Quemada Mountain, stands the monument in honor of Miguel de Unamuno, the famous writer of Bilbao. 14. Tuineje
Tuineje was the site of the two battles between the locals and English privateers in 1740.
15. Caleta de Fuste
The area is frequented by a variety of tourists and has numerous hotels, shops, boutiques, bars, cafes and restaurants on or near the beaches. In the main harbour is a castle built as a martello tower by the military engineer Claudio de Lisne in 1743.
16. Puerto del Rosario
Puerto del Rosario is the capital of the Canary Island of Fuerteventura. This city was founded around 1800 as a port for the export of soda and grain. Before 1957, the town was named Puerto de Cabras (Spanish for "goat port"), because of the nearby watering hole. Today the port serves passengers and goods. There is also a large barracks of the Spanish Legion here. You will also find the Nuestra Senora del Rosario Church and opposite it the Casa Museo de Unamuno (Spanish Literature). The city also has a football club, called UD Fuerteventura.

Fantastic tour with a pro guide. Knowledge of the island superb. Lovely clean air con van, and superb locations. Good quality stops at great locations for breaks. Id recommend this to anyone. Something for everyone on the tour

Went out with Pierre who is an amazing driver, what a laugh. Knew all sorts about everything and has enthusiasm about everything. From the 1st goat to the 8000th, everything pointed out. Lovely little Kenzo accompanying him everywhere.
Most of the important sights in the northern area of the island, nothing too far south as there isn’t much to see. Decent time for stop offs, not being rushed at all.
The stop offs were pretty good, hills everywhere so of course be careful, but overall a really good way to see 99% of the island.

There were 19 of us in the tour and we took 3 vans. Pierre, Andre and Lola were amazing. They were so well coordinated and made sure we’re altogether the whole time. Everyone in each van were pleased with the service and knowledge of the island that they shared with us. We saw the best spots in Fuerteventura. The scenery is breathtaking. A must if you’re visiting Fuerteventura!
