1. San Terenzo
SAN TERENZO VILLAGE San Terenzo appears as a timeless place, whose essence has remained unchanged, managing to retain within itself that connotation of a typical seaside village. Born as a fishing village and then becoming a refuge for artists and intellectuals, it manages to merge the sea, the wide beach and the multicolored emotion of the unmistakable Ligurian houses into one whole. With its houses perched around the Castle which, placed on a rocky spur, closes the small bay of Lerici. San Terenzo is a place that enchants with its quiet and intimate atmosphere, it suggests people take walks along the promenade under the rocky crags of the Castle, where they can stop and sunbathe during the day or admire the lights of the village in the evening of Lerici on the other side of the gulf.
2. Lerici
Lerici, a seaside town nestled between the Cinque Terre and Versilia, is one of the municipalities overlooking the Gulf of Poets, one of the most evocative corners of all of Liguria. Tellaro, one of its hamlets, is included in the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The mild climate at all times of the year and the beauty of the green hills that surround it make Lerici the ideal destination for all those who are looking for tranquility, relaxation, contact with nature or the sea, offering in more for lovers of sport, entertainment and culture, complete and unique proposals. Lerici not only offers suggestive landscapes, breathtaking sunsets and crystal clear waters to dive into. It is much more: thanks to the natural conformation between sea and mountains and the presence of numerous players and sports facilities, including golf course, tennis and Olympic swimming pool, Lerici offers an ideal and privileged environment for the most active and demanding tourism.
3. Fiascherino
Located between Lerici and Tellaro, Fiascherino is a small town that develops along the enchanting jagged bay. In 1913-1914 the English writer David Herbert Lawrence stayed here with his partner Frieda. Nature represents the main interest, with flower-lined paths, trees of different species and splendid beaches at the end of long stairways.
4. Tellaro
Located between Lerici and Tellaro, Fiascherino is a small town that develops along the enchanting jagged bay. In 1913-1914 the English writer David Herbert Lawrence stayed here with his partner Frieda. Nature represents the main interest, with flower-lined paths, trees of different species and splendid beaches at the end of long stairways. Tellaro presents itself as an open-air museum where it is possible to take a journey through time through this masterpiece of urban planning and architecture perfectly inserted into the landscape. The church of San Giorgio, with its characteristic pink colour, is located directly on the sea, surrounded by houses in typical Ligurian colors leaning against each other among the narrow alleys. Here history and legend mingle and merge: it is told of the rescue of Tellaro from a nocturnal attack by Saracen pirates, in the Middle Ages, by a giant octopus which awoke the population by ringing the church bells.
5. Porto Venere
Porto Venere is a seaside village full of history, which has its roots in the era of ancient Rome. The most fascinating ancient part is represented by a contiguous series of tower houses lined up along the marina, as the first defense of the village from enemies arriving from the sea, connected via two vaulted staircases with the central street of the village, the alley that runs from the historic entrance the entire village up to the Spallanzani square in front of the church of San Pietro. From the alley, then, other stairways, one of which is dedicated to San Venerio, go up to the upper urban nucleus where the Romanesque parish church of San Lorenzo stands, built starting from the year 1116 and consecrated in 1130 by Pope Innocent II. The best-known religious building, however, is the church dedicated to San Pietro Apostolo, famous to the point of being the symbol of the village for its highly panoramic location and architectural structure.
6. Isola Palmaria
Description. The Palmaria island with its surface area of 1.89 km² is the largest of the three islands in the Gulf of La Spezia and in the entire Ligurian territory; the other two islands, Tino and Tinetto, are met by descending a few hundred meters in a straight line towards the south.
7. Isola del Tino
The island of Tino has a surface area of 127,000 m2 and a perimeter of almost two kilometres. On the top of the island stands the lighthouse while in the northern part there is the ancient monastic complex. The westernmost part is characterized by a high cliff which makes it inaccessible.
8. Le Grazie
The name of the populous village in the municipality of Porto Venere can be traced back to the cult of the Madonna delle Grazie introduced by the Benedictine monks of Monte Oliveto who settled in this secluded inlet of the Gulf of La Spezia and built the convent and church there, dedicated to Our Lady of Thanks. The pride of the village are the shipwrights and caulkers, renowned and sought after already in the first half of the 1200s. The flagship is the underwater activity. The divers of the Grazie have worked and continue to work, with skill and courage, amidst difficulties and dangers, in the seas of half the world. So much so that with a resolution of the municipal council of Porto Venere, the village was called "The City of Divers".
9. Fezzano
Fezzano overlooks the Gulf of Poets. The small seaside village is part of the municipality of Portovenere, of which it is the first fraction coming from La Spezia and is characterized by the typical colored Ligurian houses. The history of Fezzano dates back to Roman times, ancient fundus Alphidianus. Known as Mezzano until the 9th century, it was donated to the monastery of San Venerio by Guidone Malaspina on 6 January 1052. For many centuries a Genoese possession, it was conquered like the rest of the area by Napoleon, with whom it became an independent municipality in 1805.
