"Sa Talaia" means watchtower, and the summit's name has its reason. At 446m above sea level remains the circular base of an old 16th-century tower and, a little further down, two huts where the soldiers took refuge during the Civil War. It was a watchtower that controlled the part of the bay that was not visible from Sa Penya Roja. Very exposed to storms and especially lightning, it was already in poor conditions when the military demolished it in 1918.
