We had an amazing time taking Akemi's sushi class. The food was delicious and she talked us through all the steps of sushi making. I can't wait to make some sushi at home. Akemi and Dan were so easy to communicate with and even picked us up at the station. It was a delightful way to spend the evening and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try making sushi.

I took the lesson with my 12 year old son and 8 year old daughter. We are Japanese and Canadian family based in Tokyo, so we thought we knew about Japanese sushi. THIS was more than we expected! It is fun and kids-friendly lesson that you can learn how to make authentic Japanese sushi like Nigiri, Rolls, Inari and even Gunkan from scratch. Akemi has a lot of ways to bring our sushi making to another level. All the ingredients were very fresh and top quality. Besides, you would appreciate their hospitality. We had a great time. We will definitely come back and take the lesson again.
Thank you so much!

I took the lesson with my son.
He’s in the 6th grade, and he’s never tried cooking, so I was a little anxious about whether he would be able to make sushi, but he paid close attention as he participated in the lesson, asking a lot of questions, and he enjoyed making the sushi.
My son said, “The explanations were easy to understand, and the sushi was delicious!”

When we made the nigiri-sushi, everyone said together, “air→pinch→press…”

Akemi carefully chooses all the ingredients, including the rice, the neta, the seaweed, and the red vinegar. The rice was very easy to press, and really delicious.

We could choose alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages to drink with lunch, and I picked a Japanese sake called SOUTEN. It was smooth and refreshing, and very tasty!

Making sushi was more fun than I expected, and I learned a lot.

Everything prepared here were in top quality; the fish, rice, vinegar, seaweed, wasabi, soy sauce, sake, and desserts. Even as a Japanese, I learned a lot of eye-opening trivia throughout the day.
As for the most important part, the nigiri, I was given an easy-to-understand explanation of the key points, and thanks to the opportunity to practice using beanbags, even I, who am clumsy, was able to make beautiful nigiri. My 10- years-old son also enjoyed making Sushi very much.
I was impressed by the deliciousness, which far exceeded my expectations. The wonderful ingredients carefully selected by Akemi took my Sushi to the different level, it was as delicious as good sushi restaurants around here in Tokyo 😆
Additionally, it's not a one-time experience; a delicious treat makes you want to return again and again. I can now understand why my husband and daughter, who had visited just two months ago, were excited and wanted to go back again.
AKEMI's SUSHiKiTCHEN just opened in April 2024, so now is the time to visit before it becomes too popular to make a reservation.

Why has sushi come to be loved by people around the world, transcending national borders?
This experience solves that riddle. And when you see how popular it is with Japanese people as well, you will understand clearly how truly attractive this sushi lesson is.
Every single piece of sushi embodies Japanese attention to detail and quality. I recommend this lesson to anyone who wants to learn about Japan through the culture of sushi.
One last thing that I want to add is that you can also experience true Japanese “Omotenashi,” which captures all of the meticulous hospitality of a Japanese household.

I thoroughly enjoyed the incredibly delicious sushi! The brief history lessons on sushi and the significance of "Edo-Mae" in Japanese daily life and culture truly enriched my understanding. Learning about the traditions behind various practices associated with sushi made me appreciate the centuries, if not millennia, of thought and experience that have shaped this exquisite culinary art.

This was one of the best experiences I have since arriving in 1996. The food was amazing, if you an interest in Japanese food and culture this is a must. The chief was a true master in conjunction with learning about the origins of sushi made this a truly memorable event. Recommend everyone should give this a try.

This was our first time to make sushi, and it was more fun and interesting than I though it would be! The chef, Akemi, was really kind and she explained all the important things about sushi making. I learned a lot of new things. In addition, the ingredients she prepared were the top quality. Everything was so delicious! She was also very good with our kids, including 2 teenagers. I highly recommend this class to anyone who is interested in sushi making! Also, if you learn how to make sushi from the Chef Akemi, you can always make it at home!

This cooking lesson has a homey, easy-going atmosphere. It was fun to hear trivia not only about sushi but also about the tools used to make it. The wasabi, grated with a professional sharkskin grating board, was something you don’t usually get to eat; it was creamy and fragrant.
I was happy to learn how to make authentic nigiri-sushi, rather than the te-maki sushi that people usually make at home. I want to show off my newly learned skills to guests at a party. The lesson plan includes a drink, soup, and even dessert, so it’s a bargain.
