Experience a unique and exclusive tour in Tokyo with our half-day sushi making and Toyosu Fish market experience. Starting with a comfortable pickup from your hotel in a luxurious VAN, you'll be accompanied by an expert guide who knows the ins and outs of the fish market.

Your first destination is the wholesale area, which is generally off-limits to tourists. Engage in insightful conversations with the insiders and catch a rare glimpse of the market's vibrant daily operations.
Next, the tour takes you to a selection of unique shops that supply Tokyo's finest dining establishments. Explore a greengrocer featuring a wasabi master ,a historic knife shop dating back to the Tsukiji era.

The highlight of the tour is a sushi-making experience at a sushi restaurant in the market. Under the guidance of a skilled sushi chef, you will craft 10-12 pieces of sushi, including nigiri and gunkan. Conclude this culinary adventure by enjoying your creations as a delightful breakfast.

the first part was great all by itself (visiting the new and old fish markets with insider access) - then we went to a charming little house in a charming neighborhood for our sushi-making lesson - fortunately for me, you can participate as much or as little as you like - everyone gets a selection of lovely fish and rice to make your own (and then eat it! yay!) - our guide Miho and Chef were very helpful and obviously enjoy their work - a great japanese experience

Excellent tour of fish market and then sushi making experience. Our guide very knowledgeable and led us around very interesting parts of the market. The chef at sushi kitchen was brilliant and great sense of humour. Three or four participants get to fillet a fish and taught how to do it.
Sushi making is great and you get your efforts for lunch. Ingredients are superb, especially tuna.
Got to do it, very good experience.

The day started when Miho and her driver picked us up from our hotel with the comment: "I hope you're hungry!" I could see excited twinkle in my 13-year-old's eye, but my husband chimed in "we are and we haven't even eaten breakfast!" With that, we were off first to Toyosu where we picked up Miho's colleague. All 5 of us then went onto the floor of the fish market where we met all sorts of sellers of fish -- though I have to say the most memorable was our introduction to the man who had been part one of the fish markets since 1965! We obtained a lot of different types of fish and related products and then walked around upstairs on the second floor where we got to taste a few types of miso and matcha.

After that, we were driven to the old fish market (Tsukiji) where a live fish was taken and we were shown how it was prepared. That part was rather gory, but it gave me a better appreciation that you need to know where your food comes from and how delicate the balance is of life.

From there, we went back to the Sushi Mafia building where 2 additional chefs were waiting. They showed us how to: filet fish, prepare the fish/rice/nori/etc., make stronger wasabi, and on and on. At one point, after I hadn't sliced the fish very well, my 13-year-old son took up the knife and did amazingly well -- so the chef was very congratulatory. It made my son feel really special. We then prepared the sushi -- but while this was going on, one chef fried the skin of the tuna. It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G -- crackly and flavorful all at the same time. My husband tried a bit of sake and we ended up just talking to the Sushi Mafia staff for awhile -- showing them photos and laughing together. Yes, it was expensive, but I will say that it stood out as one of those experiences that had sat on my husband's bucket list for a long time AND when it was over, he was overjoyed with how great it was!

Thank you to: Miho, Kijima, Hori, Morita

This was one of the more expensive tours we booked but it was well worth it. It's cool getting the VIP access to the fish markets, the guide was so knowledgable, and then we got to enjoy everything at sushi mafia's studio. We had an absolute blast with the staff - so friendly and fun. Recommend!

Sushi mafia is a great way to get an insider view of the wholesale fish market. Being able to see the fish there and then make sushi from it is a great foodie experience!

Our guide Miho took us through the new fish market at Toyosu explaining the process of getting fish from the ocean to supermarkets and restaurants. She also pointed out a lot of the raw ingredients for making sushi, and we even got a demonstration of how wasabi root is turned into paste. There's also a section viewing all the tools used in fish processing and sushi making. Once in the kitchen we were given an expert lesson in how to filet a fish, then a chance to try making our own nigiri style sushi. They explained all the ingredients, and had loads of different types of fish and sake for us to try. To top it all off, they were incredibly hospitable and very eager to explain bits of Japanese culture that we were curious about. We would absolutely do this tour again, and recommend to others. Keep in mind that they will keep giving you food until you stop eating.
