Leave Siena behind and hike part of Via Francigena, an ancient pilgrimage route through rural Tuscany, followed by a wine tasting in the village of Monteriggioni. Embark on a 5-mile (8-km) trek that passes through the heart of the Tuscan countryside, past picturesque castles, villages, vineyards and ruins. Once you reach the medieval walled village of Monteriggioni, reward yourself during a wine tasting session, where you will sip on 3-4 different local, organic wines. Return to Siena at your own leisure by bus (bus tickets provided).

This hiking tour was amazing and surprising. As we walked the ancient 5 mile road, our guide, Keko, shared deep local knowledge. We learned about the significance of Via Francigena, architecture, Siena neighborhoods and culture, regional herbs and trees, as well as winemaking tradition. We topped off the tour with a visit with a local winemaker. If you are active and can handle a 3-4 hour walk, I highly recommend.

This tour was absolutely amazing and the highlight of our time in Siena. We learned so much about the Tuscan landscape, vegetation, and history. The hike was comfortable and easy and absolutely STUNNING. It ends in the medieval walled town of Monteriggioni with a delicious wine tasting and plenty of time to explore the little town. We decided to stay a bit and eat a fantastic meal in one of the little Osterias there (eat the wild boar!! It's so good!) I couldn't recommend this tour more!

This was an excellent walk. Picked up from train station in Siena and then dropped at a meeting point with our guide Kiko(?). Fairly gentle stroll through the tuscan countryside with loads of information about the via Franciagena along the way. Great way to spend a day. Then local bus back after a wi e tasting and lunch in the hillfortress of Monteriggio

A wonderful hike to Monteriggioni with local guide Keko. It was all about the journey as Keko generously shared his extensive knowledge of flora and fauna and pointed out scenic vantage points. We had a beautiful day for the trek, and Keko was a very companionable guide.
