What could be nicer on a quiet, sunny day than a trip to the zoo with the family, your partner or even on your own? T The zoo is the only one of its kind worldwide. At 750 meters (about .5 miles), it is Europe’s highest-lying zoo, but it is also easy to get to and not far from the city center.
There are many different animals waiting to be seen at the zoo such as lynx, eagles, fish, and birds, as well as wolves and bears.Spring is a particularly interesting time to visit because that is when young animals are born and there is usually a lot going on! At the petting area, rare and local species of cows, pigs, goats and sheep can be seen up close.

The ride with the Hungerburgbahn starts at the Station Congress near the center of Innsbruck and brings you in 5 minutes to the Station Alpine Zoo, then back again after your zoo visit.

Huge disappointment, complete discontent.
Most animals are invisible.
Under the pretext that it's an Alpine zoo, you're made to climb steep slopes.

Very disappointing! Not much to see. Tiny cages, lots of empty cages and animals that we do not see. the zoo does not breathe animal welfare...

We visited the Alpine zoo on a Sunday and walked there instead of taking the hunger train. You could also take the bus - cheaper and less crowded than the train, by the way.
The zoo is very well laid out and you learn a lot. What I love is that it is mainly animals that are native (more or less). The restaurant is not so taste-wise mine (fries rather floury, pasta warmed up) and this is really the only criticism.
It took us about 2 hours to make the suggested circuit.

I liked this zoo, the cages or enclosures are very large and the right setting for each type of animal is faithfully reproduced. We've seen pretty much everything from wolves to bears, ibex to chamois, vultures, martens...
Some stretch is uphill due to the location but overall easy to travel. The staff turned, one cleaned the rocks of the ibex, one fed the bear etc. I found the animals very quiet in their reproduced habitats and each species had the right space to move freely. I didn't find it crowded but it was a weekday.

Zoo and funicular - good combo. It was possible to get to the higher point that zoo- Hungerburg, from there the walking path to zoo was closed. Check if the road is open, if you still want to get to Hungerburg instead of zoo station. The zoo is worth checking, very nice, very good conditions for animals.

were there in September with a 3 year old child, it was very nice, lots of animals and a well-kept zoo, big parking lot and lots of space 👍🏻

Awesome! If you follow the bear footsteps, you will come across all the animals and see them from all sides!
The enclosures are nicely tailored to the animals and it was a nice walk. Grandma of 83 was also with us. Some of the steeper paths were a bit of a challenge, but there are plenty of benches everywhere to take a rest.

Together with the Hungerburgbahn this is a nice trip! We took the bus to the Nordkette and the Hungerburgbahn down with a stop at the Alpenzoo

The animals look so sad. Especially the bear and the wolves, which are kept in a tiny enclosure and always run in the same little circle. It breaks my heart.

Beautiful but it must be due to the season or many animals were rarely seen.
Years ago there were at least 6 otters and all lively. Wolves too.
Still beautiful though

We didn't enter due to the enormous rudeness of the blonde at the front office, too stressed by her job. Too bad for our son. Entrance is very expensive even with a welcome card
