Tulum is one of the most important archaeological zones in the state of Quintana Roo since it is the only site that faces the Caribbean Sea. In ancient times it had the name Zama which means dawn, and its current name, Tulum, means enclosure or wall.
For the Mayans, this city was the main center of the sea and land commerce in the area. Nowadays, it captivates everyone who visits it. This Mayan city was built on a cliff from which you can see the turquoise tones of the Caribbean Sea in all its splendor.
It has more than 60 restored temples, El Castillo is the main building of the archaeological zone of Tulum, which is the most photographed site in the Riviera Maya, due to its peculiar location on the cliff. The Mayan city is surrounded by walls, each one symbolizing one of the elements: earth, water, air, and fire. The reef in front of the coast forms the fourth wall and which made Tulum practically inaccessible.

No, it's not worth getting tickets from Tripadvisor, because it's a scam, the tickets are not valid at the archaeological site of Tulum

I received an email with entry tickets for two people, when I arrived to enter the archaeological site of Tulum Mexico the tickets were not valid, because they were not in QR form. So I had to buy new tickets which again cost me money. I hope you will reimburse me the sum of €22.90. Be careful the tickets were not valid!!!!

The tour company vs the site company are separate entities. The site company didn’t recognize the vouchers we had, demanded that we get tickets from the both. We literally walked back and forth for an hour and still didn’t get into the site. We were very furious and customer service once we got in touch with them said that we we’re basically s.o.l and there nothing that they can do about it, not even a voucher for the next day. Never again will we do business with that tour group.

The site itself was nice to see however, actually getting to it was a nightmare and cost triple the price advertised in the end!
The staff members on site were really rude and the tickets purchased online were NOT VALID so we had to purchase tickets on site to allow us in.
I’d advise taking Mexican Pesos for the tax as change will not be provided if you give them USD. The same applies for the tickets to enter the site.
Upon raising the issue with the ticket provider regarding the entry tickets they provided not being valid, they have refused to give us a refund.
Don’t waste your time/money on these tickets!

THIS IS SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY AND A SCAM. THE LINE WAS SO SHORT IT WOULD ONLY TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO WAIT EVEN ON A BUSY TOURISTY TIME.

No need to buy anything in advance: go directly to the ticket office and you'll buy your ticket with the right price. Do not get caught by people offering you a stupid train to avoid walking and skip the queue: the price is crazy and it's just a turist trap.

No explanation at all, where to collect the tickets, since the tickets you get from viator don't work at the entry. Nobody seemed to know about this operator.
We would have been quicker taking the regular line (beginning November)

I was unable to attend and even got up at 6am to drive out there but another conflicting event arose and they will not refund me and I can’t afford to have paid got something I couldn’t use. We left Mexico the next morning and they are only open 9-5 with the last entrance at 4.
