I had a wonderful trip to the Zipaquira Salt Cathedral. My driver, Angel was so wonderful. Being a solo traveler, I am always leery about day tours but I had such a great time and I had no worries whatsoever.

Cristian was an excellent guide and took us around the historical area, not only showing us the street art but talking about the artist and the meaning behind their work. It gave a lot of context about how the art relates to the history of Colombia.

I wasn't expecting much, but it's actually a great place to visit. The audio guide is really well done. You start off by visiting small chapels and then there's a build up to the finale, the cathedral.

This tour was amazingly beautiful. My guide, Alexander was so lovely, knowledgeable and so keen to share all historic facts about Colombia that this tour to the beautiful Zipaquira Catedral could not be more complete. He answered all my questions and gave me a full insider experience of Bogota. The best way to make the most of the Colombian culture and history. Thank you so much.

This is actually the second cathedral on this site. The first one was constructed relatively shallow and it was partially destroyed by water. As a result the decided to build another cathedral but this time deeper - and this is the one we saw. You walk down a tunnel into the mine shaft and then start walking the various stations of the cross until you eventually get to the main cathedral apse. It is quite amazing actually and well worth the effort. The walk and the steps inside are not that strenuous so you can easily do it.
As a geologist I enjoyed seeing the various salt “deformation” structures.
If you are in the area you should make the effort to do this attraction.
