Magnificent green view, classic feel  of a farm day at Kiambethu tea plantation provides a tranquil insight into life on a settler farm. Learn how Tea is grown, picked and processed. Have a 3-course lunch with fresh ingredients, and of course, a cup of tea and walk through the tea gardens.

Situated at 7,200 ft., Kiambethu was bought and farmed by AB McDonell in 1910. He was the first person to grow, make and sell tea commercially in Kenya - now one of Kenya’s biggest exports. Five generations have lived on the farm and it is currently run by his granddaughter Fiona Vernon. The farm house is set within beautiful gardens surrounded by acres of tea and indigenous forest - home to the Colobus monkey and plenty of other wildlife.

We had an excellent time at the tea farm. Fiona and Sarah were incredibly warm, welcoming hosts. Made us feel right at home. The gardens, forest and farm were such an unexpected bonus. The meal served was the best meal we had during our 10 day Kenya visit. Highly recommend.

Obed picked us up promptly for our Tea Farm Tour. He was pleasant and provided a wealth of knowledge on the ride up to the farm. One of my friends had been avidly practicing Swahili and he entertained her questions while teaching her new phrases. Upon arrival at the tea farm estate we were greeted by Fiona who was a very kind and sweet lady. Her family is 5th generation British tea farmers and she was born and raised in Kenya. She explained in grave detail what the harvesting process was like, took us to the field and let us know how they get the tea from picking stage to the processing factory. After that, we broke for tea tasting and then Julius gave us a tour of the forrest on the estate. It was filled with medicinal trees, plants, and herbs. He was very patient, knowledgeable and taught us so much about what the Kenyan ecosystem has to offer! Following this we had a delicious 4 course dinner made by the in house chef of Kenya delights and were transported back by Obed. We loved it! The program was great and we enjoyed how it flowed. Please do not miss out on this incredible experience!

The tea farm was a beautiful place to spend the day. I enjoyed the tour and education on how tea is made, as well as the history of tea in Kenya. They also had a nice garden to walk around, a small forest walk, and great food. It was also cool to see the home and how much was preserved from what Fiona's grandfather built. After the tour and food, we were welcome to hang out in the gardens and on the lawn, very big leisure vibes, which I love. Even if you aren't a big tea drinker this is a great trip. Alex was an amazing guide and driver, and great company for the drive, ask for Alex whenever you book!

This owner of this tea farm does a wonderful job of explaining how tea is grown and processed. It was very educational! We sat in her living room as she explained things. The actual tea farm is quite small (2 acres) and doesn’t give the feeling of a large tea plantation . The walk through the natural forest was nice but the guide wasn’t very informative. The food was excellent and everything was well appointed. One could imagine tea time in the early 20s. Highly recommend

Me and my boyfriend went to Kiambethu Tea Farm in September. We were picked up from a private residence and driven to the tea farm. Our driver was around an hour early but otherwise he was great. He told us many things about Kenya on the way and was a very nice driver. The views were beautiful, the food was great and overall the experience was great. It's a great activity for tea lovers.

We loved visiting the tea farm. It was so beautiful and peaceful. It was interesting to learn all about growing and processing tea. Then we took a walk in the forest followed by an incredible lunch outside surrounded by the flower gardens. Our driver Tim was great and gave us lots of information. The area we drove through were very enlightening.

If you're a tea-drinker like me, this experience is a wonderful way to learn about and appreciate the labor and complexities that goes into the tea that so many of us enjoy.

If you've spent days being active in and around Nairobi and are ready for a lower key day, this fits the bill. Safari Port makes transportation easy, and the beautiful setting and enjoyable meal at Kiambethu is a lovely way to unwind a little.
