Private Tour: Santorini Highlights with Akrotiri

We thoroughly enjoyed our private tour! Kostas guided us through Akrotiri with great knowledge and perspective. He showed us some areas of Santorini that we would not have been able to discover on our own and it was great to get away from the crowds in Fira and Oia. And he took us to a wonderful local restaurant to wind down after our hard morning of tourist work.

Kosta was very personable and professional. He knew the history and the archeology of Santorini. He took us, as promised to the most photogenic places on the island. His knowledge is encyclopedic.

My husband and I enjoyed our afternoon with Kostas. As a local, Kostas introduced us to Santorini beyond Oia and Fira. From the time we booked the trip, Kostas and his team worked with us to craft a visit that allowed us to explore the rich history and ruins of Akrotiri along with the cultural bounty of the famous Santorini wines. Kostas brought the Akrotiri ruins to light, helping us envision the vibrant community buried in the ruins.

Kostas shared with us some of the beautiful views, providing the history of the island, and showed a local's view of Santorini. We ended the evening at a winery with a caldera view and delicious Greek food and wines. Kostas treated us like honored guests to his home.

Our guide Alex was wonderful. He was very professional and knowledgeable, while still being flexible and friendly. Our itinerary was changed by our cruise company, necessitating a change of tour schedule. The company accommodated us - even though our tour ended up being on their Easter. Despite this, Alex was not hurried, and even found us a place for an amazing lunch even with the holiday crowds. This tour company was wonderful to work with, highly recommend.

Our family of four including two teenagers had a wonderful time exploring the southern part of Santorini with Kostas. He showed us all of the best places and filled our day with so many interesting stories. At Akrotiri he even came prepared with dozens of photos of frescoes and other artifacts found during the excavation that we would never have seen on our own. The view from our lunch stop at Venetsanto winery was breathtaking. Kostas is also an excellent photographer so we came away with some great family photos as well.

A drive all along the black sand beaches of Perissa & Perivolos

Kosta gave us a comprehensive tour of the areas that showed us spectacular views, gave us insight into the culture of local people and ate delicious food at local restaurants by the black beach. The tour of Akrotini , significant archaeological sight was speechless - we learned so much. He took us Venetsanos winery the views were breathtaking , carved in nature by the sea . Kosta is very knowledgeable , passionate guide with a great sense of humor . highly recommend him.

A private guided tour may seem luxurious but, when time is limited, it’s the best way to get to know the island beyond Fira. Kostas speaks perfect English and has years of experience guiding tours. We booked the highlights of Santorini and archeological tour. 1st we went to more touristy areas where he told us the history of his island, ancient and recent. We then were able to walk around to shop and grab a little food. We took about a hour, but he was open to the time frame. " 45 minutes or hour and a half, I'll be here waiting "
He then asked if there was anything more specific we wanted out of the tour. We told him we wanted to see more of how the locals lived. So we took a meandering 90min trip through the island on our way to the Akrotiri dig site. Along the way he told us of the challenges during the financial hardship of the late 1,900's and early 2,000's, as well as the difficulties of the recent explosion of tourism.
We were able to visit many small communities on the island that most people never see. Kostas laughed a couple of times, "I'll guarantee no one on your cruise ship came through here"
We ended our visit with a personal tour through the Akrotiri dig site which was amazing.
Overall my wife and I really enjoyed our time with Kostas. We found him to be a highly competent and personable tour guide. His deep love and passion for his island was contagious. While arriving at Akrotiri, Kostas jokingly gave another tour guide a hard time for parking "in his spot".
She gave him a good hearted rebuttal then looked at us with a smile, "You know your with the best, right?". We wholeheartedly agree.
