Unimaginably beautiful, fairytale like gardens full of brooks, fountains, swans & statues. The house was beyond expectations & well presented by Ruby, our guide. A part of the south's history. Do Not Miss It!

We’ve done this tour several times since moving to Baton Rouge. It’s one of our go to’s when we have visitors. It’s always amazing but this one was the best, to date. Our tour guide, Suzanna, was very knowledgeable. Of all the plantation tour homes we’ve visited, and there have been many, this is the favorite. The grounds, the restaurants, the house, itself, are amazing.

The property is absolutely stunning. It's straight out of a fairy garden. The house tour is pretty interesting. Absolutely nothing included about slavery.

We did the gardens first and really enjoyed it. Did not expect the eclectic statuary or tea house at the oriental garden a nice surprise. Beautiful flowers during our walk and I think the best live oak tree we've ever seen. Then went to the Dixie cafe for lunch and the food was excellent. We then did the tour at the mansion, which was informative and entertaining. Ruby (our tour guide) did a terrific job explaining the history of Houmas House from the very beginning to the movies made on site and the present owner. She was very knowledgeable about the paintings, photography and furniture in the Mansion. She had some funny stories too. Everyone we met at the gift shop, on the grounds, in the restaurant were pleasant and helpful. Glad we visited.

We enjoyed this tour so much! Darren was a great and knowledgeable guide who answered my many questions. I wish we'd had time to tour more of the grounds and the museum, but we were on a tight schedule. I would go back again!

This was a very delightful place to visit! The mansion tour was interesting and informative. There were many fascinating artifacts to see during the tour. The grounds/gardens were beautiful and peaceful. I had lunch in the Carriage House Restaurant, which had an elegant atmosphere. The food was delicious. Lastly, I passed through the Great River Road Museum located on the grounds. The museum is very large and well put together. During the summer (when I went), I recommend visiting the grounds/gardens in the morning before the weather gets too hot. Have your camera ready because there are a LOT of great photo opportunities both outside inside the mansion!

This is a beautiful exquisitely maintained property with an amazing history. The mansion house is beautifully preserved and accessible.
Ruby gave a fascinating, funny and historically enlightening 1 hour presentation. She made the house come alive. One of our party was in a wheelchair and Ruby went out of her way to make it easy for us to get around. - Thank you Ruby.

Our tour guide was great and even dressed in clothes that I'd imagine were worn during the prime of the mansion's time. It's a beautiful mansion and there's so much outside to see. We enjoyed this tour as much as we did the Oak Alley and Laura Plantations. This one is more serene as far as the outdoors. It is worth noting this tour doesn't discuss the slavery that took place there. If that's important to you, you may want to skip this one.
