Mt Longonot National Park is located 90km from Nairobi city on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. The mt Longonot national park is a popular park for hiking and mountain climbing that takes less than 3-4hrs to climb/hike up and down. It is one of the best adventure day trips from Nairobi. Longonot national park is easy to get to and has the best sightseeing opportunities and one can look inside the mountain crater.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1. Mount Longonot National Park
Drop into the rift valley and arrive at the Mt Longonot national park for your Hike up to the crater. The hike requires medium physical fitness and you will climb through the gulleys that dot the sides of this mountain. You can make some rest stops at the designated places on the trek. You will get to the rim of the crater and look into the awesome crater below. If you have the strength for it, you can go round the rim of the crater.
2. Great Rift Valley
You will make a scheduled stop at the view point on the side of the escarpment to enjoy the view of the Rift valley floor from a birds eye view. The rift valley system was formed 5 million years ago and the rift runs from the red sea through Ethiopia and Kenya and Tanzania. The rift valley is an active volcanic area and has some of the most interesting features including more than 8 lakes, dormant and active volcanic mountains and hotsprings and geysers like the Olkaria geothermal wells and Lake Bogoria geysers. You can actually see the volcanic Mt Suswa and Mt Longonot from this high place with their evergreen craters and the undulating green rift valley floor. The view from here is just amazing. Make sure to take as many photos from here as you can
3. Lake Naivasha
12:00pm: - Mt. Longonot –Lake Naivasha Descend from the Longonot mountain for the base at the park headquarters. Relax for some while and take on the drive to Lake Naivasha. 1:00pm: - Lunch at Marina Camp Arrive at Marina camp and enjoy a sumptuous lunch at their restaurant by the lakeside while watching the lakes beauty and the birds flying by. 2:30pm: - Boat Ride in Lake Naivasha Go on an hour boat ride in this wonderful rift valley lake. The boat ride will take you to see the hundreds of birds in this lake including the diving African fish eagle which dives in the water to catch fish without ever missing. You will also go to the hippo pool and see the hippos as they swim and bleat inside the water while opening their mouths to over 180 degrees.

We booked last minute to climb Mt Longonot. The guide was informative and flexible, picking us up at 5 am on our request instead of 7.

This was an amazing experience. Hiking (Mt Longonot), biking (Hell’s Gate), and boating (Lake Naivasha) in a 2-day trip. The driver Festus Kazungu took care of everything and made me feel safe all the time. I highly recommend.

Amazing and efficient day to hike the mountain and see the lake. Great guide who not only answered questions about the area, but also alot about his own country. Great for single travelers who does not want to arrange a car, entry and hiking by them selves.

Note that the National Park where the mountain are only let you bring reusable bottles, not single use water bottles.

The view from Mt. Longonot was spectacular.
Looking down on the opposite side of where we had climbed, we could see numerous cracks in the ground, and we could see that there are many more faults in the Great Rift Valley.
I'm glad I came because I was able to see a view that you can't see from ordinary viewpoints.
Our guide, Jeffrar, was friendly and talked to us about various things, so I had a great time.
It's a bit expensive for one person, so it's best to come with someone else if possible.

It was really perfect tour with the guide "Jaffar" and driver "Stephen". the guide was also a delightful travel companion and he is also knowledgeable about "Mount Longonot National Park". After hiking we went to Nivasha lake. It has alot to see like hippoes and a lot on kinds of birds. Thank you Jaffar and Stephen

I had a fantastic time exploring Mount Longonot National Park with Safik as my driver and Joshua as my guide. Joshua’s expertise in the local ecosystem, including the park’s geology and wildlife, was truly impressive. He not only provided invaluable insights but was also a delightful travel companion, introducing me to some hidden gems around the mountain. Safik’s company was equally enjoyable, as he was willing to take time to take me to areas that were not initially part of the day’s itinerary. In sum, it was a highly enjoyable experience with the added flexibility to tailor the programme to the client’s needs.

It’s a good trip for holiday. The guide is friendly. The vehicle is good. Cycling time is not very hard. The only pity thing is that the Gorge is closed because of the flooding.

I had an incredible experience with this tour company. Denis picked me up at my hotel at 6 a.m., and off he drove to Mount Longonot for my hike. Denis was pleasant. He is knowledgeable. The drive was enjoyable as Denis provides you with information about what you can see along the way. As to my hike up to the crater, I was accompanied by Joshua. Another knowledgeable person you want to hike with you. After the hike, Denis took to me to Lake Naivasha. I had one of the best fish lunch there. Then I did the boat tour, and there I met Nick, who navigated the lake with his wealth of knowledge. I was pleased with the 3 gentlemen who were gracious to show me a part of their country. Make sure to request for them if you ever find yourself visiting Nairobi. Thank you, Denis, Joshua, and Nick.

This is a perfect day-trip outing to stretch the legs, see some of the countryside and LOTS of wildlife. My driver, Denish, has lots of local knowledge, drove very calmly/safe, and was nice to spend time with. I also had Joseph as a hiking guide and highly recommend requesting him - really knowledgeable and very pleasant to hike with.

The guide (Douglas) was really friendly and helpful. They picked us up at our hotel and then went directly on tour. On the road, he explained and informed us more about the country and it's tribes. Really interesting and entertaining!
He was kind all the time, a really good guide and funny at the same time.

We visited and did a circle around Mt. Longonot and a boat cruise with wild animals to see and admire! 🐤😁
The experience was exciting and lovely !
I recommend to everyone who wants to start a sportive morning on the big dormant volcano and a relaxing afternoon by the lake on a boat.
For the finish, a nice meal ! Miam.
