This was a once in a life time experience. We never dreamed it would end up as a private tour. Mohammad 1 & 2 as well as Harod was fantastic.

Unforgettable trip, one of the best memories we have of this holiday in Egypt. Both our guide Adam Hassan and our driver Ahmed Khamis took great care of us, thought of where to stop, shared snacks, provided us with bottled water, helped us find the best souvenirs and spots to take photos. Water was included in the price and Ahmed always brought it in the right time so we never had a shortage. The van was spacious, clean and air-conditioned, which is a must on the journey to Siwa.
Adam was always ready to provide maximum information about the sites we visited and to answer all extra questions. They both fully devoted their time to us to let us make the most of this trip, adjusting the timing and itinerary, staying up late. We felt welcome and cared for at every step. It felt like we were traveling with friends. We gladly recommend Marsa Alam Tours, Adam and Ahmed.
Siwa itself is in sharp contrast to Cairo, peaceful and full of flowers and animals as well as hot and cold springs. The local people are extremely kind and welcoming, making you feel at home. It is a unique place, and it is worth visiting. The dune safari was fun.

This trip was amazing. Starting from the crew, Wael our main guide and Ahmed the driver were so special to us, they arranged everything for us tu be perfect. We stayed on a ecolodge, so beautiful and comfy, and we did a safari on the dessert with Mohamed, he was so special to us too, the best was watching the sunset with this guys on the top of a dune on Sahara desert, taking tea made by Mohamed. The second night we spent the night on a desert camp. And it was amazing! I am vegetarian, and Wael and the crew always had it in their minds. We had any problems with food. Everything delicious! Very recommended experience! Thanks very much

We booked a private tour from Cairo to Siwa oasis. We asked for the company to change the timing around for us and they were very accommodating. Our driver was Ahmed and our guide was Wael, both were amazing! It was a long journey from Cairo but they definitely made the trip worth it. It was nice to get out of the hustle and bustle of Cairo and see something different. Would highly recommend!

My friend and I took the three-day tour to Siwa Oasis and added in an extra day for Marsa Matruh and Alexandria. The overall experience was really a 4.5, but I rounded up to solid 5 since the minor issues were mostly outside of the operators' control.

Because I want future travellers to be prepared, I've written a pretty long review and the larger part of it is focused on what wasn't perfect, but I want to emphasise that it was a great trip and that I would completely recommend it! :)

------

What was awesome:

The itinerary was well planned and executed. The drive to Siwa was very long (just be prepared for this) and we were concerned about how they were going to fit so many things into a short time in Siwa itself, but somehow everything went smoothly and we never felt rushed. Siwa was a unique and fascinating place to spend a little more than a day, and the Siwa sites and activities were really fun and interesting. The timing was perfect for one sunset over Fatnas lake and a stunning one in the desert just after sandboarding.

We had several different guides (Mustafa, Wael, and Heba) and drivers (two different Mohammeds) throughout the tour. All were friendly and professional, and we felt 100% safe with all of them as two young women. They were knowledgeable about the sites, and approachable with all sorts of questions, but we also appreciated that they didn't overwhelm us with constant floods of dates, names, and other information and respected that we sometimes wanted downtime to take in the scenery and visit with each other. The drivers did a great job and made us feel comfortable even in unusual situations like going down steep dunes in the the desert safari and handling heavy traffic and unorganized construction detours.

The accommodations were great, especially the gorgeous, unique hotel in Siwa and the desert camp (it was a cold evening for April, and they thoughtfully included an extra sleeping bag for each of us at the last minute which probably saved the night). The breakfasts/dinners were tasty and didn't make us sick.

My friend arrived late due to airline shenanigans, and when I reached out to the company at the last minute, they were able to move some things around to accommodate us, which was amazing and above-and-beyond.

The price was a little higher than some operators, but this seemed fair considering how many people were involved in the trip, away from their families for days travelling with us. And we really appreciated that we were never once pestered for tips, and weren't even sure if they were expected -- even though we still tried to give modest ones to everyone who worked with us. :)

What could be improved / What you should be prepared for:

It was really cool in some ways to visit Egypt during Ramadan, but it did create some problems that ideally we might have been informed about when we first booked the tour. Lunch was a problem every day, though the guides did their best to figure something out. One day we just snacked, one day we had a lovely picnic in the desert (I'll never forget the Siwan-style eggplant dish Mohammed's wife prepared for us!), one day we had the least delicious meal of our trip (still edible and safe) at a hotel. Similarly, because of Ramadan / low season in Siwa, the beautiful pool at the hotel was closed/drained, the main bathrooms at Cleopatra's bath were closed (so we had to use a pretty nasty one), etc. Just be ready for some minor issues if you travel at this time!

There was some confusion about paying for the tour -- we were assured multiple times that we could pay with dollars/euros and that they wanted cash, so we travelled with more cash than we usually do only to find out that A.) Egypt is incredibly strict about the condition of foreign bills -- about a third of the money I had gotten straight from an ATM in the US was rejected for being too damaged. B.) There has recently been some change where Egyptians have problems changing large amounts of foreign cash, so we had to go to the bank to change it into Egyptian currency ourselves. The guides were very apologetic about this, and maybe it was a very recent change so we couldn't have been told ahead of time, but we felt bad delaying everything on the busiest day of the itinerary when we could have more easily paid by card or withdrawn Egyptian currency directly from the ATM.

There were also some minor communication issues about timing and the itinerary that ended up making us 'hurry up and wait' or not be prepared properly, for example thinking that we were stopping just for the bathroom, but then being told at the last minute that we should already have everything ready-to-go and on us for the next activity.

This is a slightly adventurous trip, and not a luxury tour where everything you could possibly need is provided for you. For the most part we liked this, since we are used to travelling independently and don't need to be constantly pampered/warned to be careful/warned to stay hydrated, etc. But we were a bit disappointed how often we had to ask and wait for water bottles and that the guides didn't even have a basic first aid kit when I could have used a band-aid in the desert. It did make me wonder how they would have handled a real injury or issue. So basically I would recommend packing, preparing, and behaving almost as if you were travelling independently.

I planned a birthday trip with friends to Siwa from Cairo and my tour guide was Wael. We had such an amazing experience on this trip. I don’t even know if i can pick a favorite thing. The Salt water springs were beautiful, tea in the desert was such a great experience. We had dinner, listened to live music, and hike a hill and watched the sun rise after a night of camping. Riding on the sand hills and sand surfing was INCREDIBLE! Probably a tie between the sand hills and salt lakes as my favorites. Our hotel was great as well and they accommodated us and all of our needs. The trip was a long drive but our guide made plenty of stops and we were fed so much, had tea and went sightseeing to make the drive go by smoothly. I can honestly say that it’s worth every single penny. I would definitely recommend anyone to go on this adventure and ask for Wael. We got an up close experience amongst this village and got to experience some things I wouldn’t have expected to do in my life. We’ve also made a friend in Cairo and definitely plan to go back and see him. If you are reading this Wael, Thank you for everything! You were so sweet and your knowledge about the land is so informative. We learned so much from you. You really set the bar high.

Wael and Mostafa were incredible guides! We saw/did the Mountain of the Dead, Amun-Re Temple, the salt lakes, Cleopatra’s spring/well, oasis hot spring, dune bashing, sand boarding, and desert camping. Everything was phenomenal, shukran!!!

We had a wonderful time in Siwa. The oasis is a relaxed and beautiful place and on this tour you get to experience all the highlights like the salt lakes or the Mountain of the Dead. The safari to the desert is an adventure and we had a lot of fun.

We were picked up by our nice guide Adam and our hospitable driver Muhammed on time at our hotel. The drive to Siwa lasts for ca. 8 hours, which is a lot but the oasis is really worth it. We were travveling in a van with a lot of space and got many snacks and water. Because of that the long drive was comfortable.

On the first night we stayed at an ecolodge and on the second in a hotel (it was too cold and windy to stay at the desert camp in the night). The ecolodge is a nice looking place with a great breakfast, but our room was really cold and the toilet did not work. That was the only bad thing on this great trip.

All in all that was an unforgetable adventure.

Great trip, very full day 2 seeing all of Siwa, after 2 full days travelling. Felt well looked after and well informed by our tour guide Wael, and driver Heny. Everything was taken care of by Wael including the ecolodge and local food - be prepared to eat a lot! The most beautiful part of Egypt that we visited and nice to get away from the crowds of tourists. This tour is pricey though it's well worth the long journey to Siwa!

Hidden gem of Egypt!!! I have been to Egypt numerous times and have experienced almost the entire country. I cannot recommend the trip to Siwa enough. Lodging at the Ghaliet ecolodge was incredible, the room, grounds and service were superior. There was an error in booking out 2nd night and we stayed in a less desirable non comparable, Dream Lodge Hotel. It may be nicer in the summer when heat or hot water are not necessities. Wael and Ahmed were the best your guide and driver I’ve experienced in any country. They ensured our safety and every need was met. The entire day in Siwa from the the salt lakes, food, desert safari, hot springs and sights were relaxing and an amazing experience. The ride to & from Siwa is long but is broken up with several sights and rest areas. Don’t miss out, book your tour with Marsa Alam tours and enjoy the laughter with Wael and Ahmed.
