We had a fantastic tour. We were serenaded by our driver a couple of times. Circled island back to starting point right in time for shuttle back to our resort. Beautiful views and historic and cultural information.

Tour was a good value. We were the only two people that day. Another tour with another company on another island was cancelled when they only had two people, saying they needed at least four. So we were pleased they did not cancel this tour with only us two customers. Circled the island completely. Almost all of it was on paved roads, so this was not a rough-riding back-country 4x4 trip. Very friendly and nice guide, as seem to be all of the Polynesian people. Gave him a good tip, which he greatly appreciated especially since they are not making much money with only two customers in the truck. I say spread it around. It will only make them value tourists even more.

Great morning with Ra'i (I hope I didn't get your name wrong, otherwise excuse me 😉) a very nice tour of the island with lots of anecdotes about this magnificent island.
The two 4x4 climbs will remain a rock'n'roll memory, especially the second!!
Your songs also accompanied by your ukulele!
Thank you for this great time!

Spectacular! The views were amazing, the information about the island from our guide was both interesting and extremely educational, but the best past of the entire day was our driver! His humor, his love of the island, and most of all his ukulele music during our stops made the day magical. HIGHLY recommend!

We were in French Polynesia for 3 days as part of a cruise that we took with my parents to celebrate their 55th anniversary. This was the only excursion where I opted for a group tour instead of a private one. When researching excursions, I kept seeing 4x4 trips, which seem to be essential to get to some of the iconic viewpoints.

Even though the meeting point was pretty clear, somehow, we were some of the last folks to board. I will say that if you’re petite or have kids, you might want to make sure that the jeeps has seat belts. My tiny mom had a hard time because her feet didn’t touch the floor and the rusty seatbelt they tried to give her upon request didn’t do much.

The “OMG road” lived up to its name, but it was fun. I had warned my parents that it was bumpy and that the ground was going to be uneven in some places but their eyes still got pretty big a few times and they chose not to walk up to the cannon even though they absolutely could’ve. Our guide Manu was charming and funny, and I liked how he and the other drivers/guides (we had 2 trucks traveling together) would play music at the different stops along the way.

The final stop at the pareu “factory” was honestly the biggest disappointment. I normally roll my eyes at this kind of stop but I feel like they really missed out on some potential sales because of the setup. I could see that there was a demo area, but no one walked us through it, the dyed pareu looked more like tie-dye than anything uniquely Polynesian and a lot of the other trinkets just seemed cheap (and then at the same time overpriced). I did see one pareu that I liked but I had to find someone to tell me the price and it was more than the ones at the tender port (which is always overpriced). Maybe this should come earlier in the tour so it’s not so anticlimactic?

NOTE FOR CRUISE SHIP PASSENGERS: Most of the shops were not open when we first arrived and so we planned to walk along the street and go into some shops after our excursions. Even though we were in port until 8pm, many of the shops were already closed again when we got back around 4pm. This just seems like a missed opportunity in a place that I’m assuming relies on tourism. As someone who has worked in cruise ship ports, those were always our busiest days and we always made a point to be open when the ship was there. I’m not saying the people there need to accommodate the tourists, but I do want to warn the tourists that your shopping opportunities may be limited so don’t assume a shop will be open to check out on your way back to the ship.
