What an awesome tour! Guatavita is a beautiful and quite charming little town. The lake area is so unique and an absolute must see while in Bogota, an excellent break away from the busy city. Highly recommended!

We had a 16 hour layover on our way to Argentina. We wanted to maximize our short time in Bogata, a city we were unfamiliar with. Luis was right on time. A great tour guide with and excellent rapport and great knowledge about his country.
Great clean car!
THE BEST!!!!

My thanks to Luis for such an excellent tour. He is so passionate about Colombia, and it's culture.

I could not have asked for a better start to my trip!

Lake Guatavita is a magical place. Well protected now, thankfully. I was fascinated to learn it's history - one of great splendour, mystery, drama. And also of sadness in terms of the experience of indigenous people at the hands of the colonialists. I now cannot wait to visit the Gold Museum. The flora and fauna of this unique type of terrain is also fascinating.

My whole experience with this company was excellent. Luis catered the trip entirely to my needs (taking into account my jet lag and the altitude). He really took the time to plan a trip in relation to my interests.

I don't often write reviews these days but as a seasoned traveller I recommend this tour company without any hesitation!

Thank You!

If you are looking for a company to book for your tours in Bogota, then you can stop looking. You have found the best. This company is owned and operated by two amazing brothers, Luis and Alejandro, both of whom I had the privilege to meet. I inquired with them directly via email (I think it is available here in TA, and their website as well) and this was the start of my awesome journey with BDGS. I emailed them several months before I went to Colombia and I had certain specific requests which Luis (operations) was able to accomodate without any hassle. I booked all my tours with them, plus airport transfers, plus a meal trip to ACDR. With the price that they quoted for me, I thought they were crazy for giving me such a good offer. It was too good to turn down. Sure there are other companies probably offering lower prices, but I assure you, what you get is 5 star quality service. Never in my life have I experienced a tour/guide service like that.

When I finally arrived in Bogota, it was Alejandro who met me at the airport. These brothers are clever. They sent me via email a copy of the sign Alejandro will be holding (a tablet with a colorful display plus my name) so it would be easy for me to identify him. Whenever I book airport transfers, I always have a hard time finding my service because everyone will be holding out a white piece of paper with so many names written on them. When I exited customs, even from afar, I could spot Alejandro because he was the only one holding out a tablet with a colorful display. See how simple but smart that is? Alejandro was the perfect gentleman. My trip to Bogota was off to a great start because of him.

As I mentioned above, I booked all my tours with them. City tour, Guatavita, Salt Cathedral, and a special request to go to Andres Carne De Res, the world famous restaurant in Chia. It was Luis who did all these tours with me and I have to say, I have never met a person more passionate about his country and his work than Luis. You can feel his energy and his overwhelming love and pride for his country. Yes this is a job for them, this is their work, but I felt as if they are really more about letting the world know how wonderful and amazing Colombia is. I didn’t expect to fall in love with Bogota, but because of Luis’ infectious love for his country/city, I was able to see it the way he does. The city tour was great. I was able to see parts of the city that held so much history. Luis won’t bore you with details. He would tell you only what is important, as well as some important trivial facts. My favorite part of the city tour was walking along the colorful streets of La Candelaria. After that we went to Montserrate, and even though the weather was a bit crazy, the experience was never ruined for me. In between “tour” stuff, we would be talking about literally everything. I would let you know, Luis can talk about football all day! His passion and love for football is awe inspiring. We went to the Salt Cathedral next, and it was the first time I’ve seen something like it. Please visit this Cathedral (with BDGS of course). It is a different experience and I’m sure you would love it. That was the end of our first day together, but Luis was very generous with his time. I remember him saying that our day would end at around 6-6:30 PM, but that he would be at my service until midnight or whatever time I want. He is very kind and accomodating like that. I doubt you will find that in other comapnies.

Our second day was dedicated to going to Laguna de Guatavita. This is probably my favorite because I love long drives and I love doing nature stuff. It is quite a drive from Bogota, around 2 hours, but like the Salt Cathedral, I also highly recommend this tour. Not a lot of foreigners do this, but if you have time, do book this tour. Please. The experience was renewing and refreshing. It is a nature walk with a bit of a hike, but nothing tough. Luis took the trip with me and as an inside joke, I call him my abuelo. Haha! I’m kidding Luis! At the park there is a ranger who will lead the small group of travelers (you can’t do this solo, always with a ranger, and on a schedule). The view at the top is beautiful and very calming. The climb up is not as tough as one would think and every step is worth it when you get to the top.

After the Guatavita tour, we made our way to Chia, the town where Andres Carne De Res was located. That restaurant is crazy good. The place, the people, the ambiance, and of course, the food. It is a unique experience I would be proud to tell my friends and family that I did. Luis and I had a meal together and it was not like a client/guide thing. It felt more like two friends having a meal together. On our way back to the city we talked about our common love for music. We each took turn choosing a song that we love to play in the car. When we arrived at my hotel, it was supposed to be my turn but I had to get off already. Luis, I hope you played Africa by Toto like I requested you to. Haha!

It is important to note that I am a solo female traveler, and I have never ever once felt uncomfortable in any situation in Bogota. Not with Luis and Alejandro, not in the city tours and the other tours I’ve done.

My journey to Colombia was made awesome by these two brothers. I didn’t just gain memories of this wonderful country, I gained friends.

Luis and Alejandro, from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much. I promise to return to your country someday, and we will definitely see each other again.
