The Leopold Collection includes the most striking and emotional works of Viennese art from the early twentieth century. In this art tour of the museum's collection, we take a look at works by Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, Egon Schiele and Richard Gerstel to understand and experience the images of that complex and incredibly interesting era.

Gustav Klimt is an artist with a biography full of endless creative pursuits. Each stage of his journey is represented in the collection of the Leopold Museum by distinctive works. We will look at Klimt's early drawings to appreciate his skills as a portrait painter. You will also discover newly discovered details of his biography that offer an unexpected perspective on the artist's much recognisable style.

Egon Schiele is a perfect example to illustrate the connection between creativity and the movements of the artist's soul. We will certainly discuss whether it is a coincidence that when the Viennese psychotherapist Sigmund Freud was developing concepts such as "repression", "Oedipus complex" and "acting out", the Viennese artist Schiele painted portraits of blind associates, parodies of famous works by colleagues and paintings of dead mothers.

Klim and Schiele are two of the most famous names of the Viennese art scene at the beginning of the 20th century, but we also take a look at the work of their contemporaries Koloman Moser, Max Openheimer and Bronzia Koller-Pinel and you get a detailed insight into the vibrant intellectual life and creative scene in Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century.

In this tour of the Leopold Museum you will see how artists' redefinition of the purpose of art led to the birth of new artistic styles and a new idea of what art is.

The Leopold Museum has such a great collection, but we would never have understood or even been able to see it without Julia's excellent guidance. This tour was so much more than just information about artists and paintings. It was the most emotional, intelligent and witty encounter with art we have ever had.

We did not know exactly what to expect from Austrian art and booked this tour almost by accident. We were all the more surprised that this tour became the highlight of our trip. Our wonderful guide, Julia, created a deep and engaging experience. Thanks to her, we not only saw wonderful art, but had a thought-provoking and emotional encounter with art and history. Five stars!

My wife and I were thrilled to revisit the Leopold Museum in Vienna, as we have a deep appreciation for its impressive collection of art. However, we wanted to take our experience to the next level and booked a private tour with an art expert to gain unique insights.
Our expectations were exceeded when we met Julia, our guide for the day. Her exceptional knowledge and ability to communicate complex information in an engaging manner made the experience truly unforgettable. We spent two and a half hours with her, but could have easily spent more time due to the fascinating insights she provided.
Our time with Julia was, without a doubt, the highlight of our trip to Vienna. We cannot wait to visit another museum with her on our next city tour.

Our tour was a highlight of our week in Vienna. Julia was knowledgable, engaging, and balanced high level history with specific facts. We came out with a better understanding of Austria, art more broadly, but also the three Austrian masters. I could not recommend the tour more.

Julia was an engaging and knowledgeable guide, and our 2+ hours with her flew by! I left the tour with a newfound appreciation for Klimt as well as the ability to really see the visual relationship between Klimt's works and Schiele's. In addition, Julia also wove in lots of interesting history about Vienna. In sum, I learned a ton and would take another tour with Julia in a heartbeat.

Having visited the major art museums in Vienna on our own , for the Leopold Museum we decided to take a guided tour.

Julia was a fantastic guide and we loved every minute of exploring the exhibition in her company. Thanks a lot!

I took the ARTWITHME tour at the Leopold Museum. It was the perfect experience. I had no trouble meeting up with my guide. Julia is an art historian and an art curator so she really knew what she was talking about when at some pretty provocative paintings we talked about what is allowed to be exhibited in a museum. Highly interesting, highly recommended

When I was reading the description of this tour in the Leopold Museum I was immediately sure that this would not be just another guided tour through a museum. And when I met Julia and we started off it was like completely immersing yourself in the context of art and its various meanings and impacts. Julia was so engaging, knowledgeable and unconventional; she has given me so many new pieces of the puzzle that my already trained „artistic mind“ desperately needed. Highly recommended!

I came to Vienna with my wife, who is a big fan of the Wiener Moderne, so of course this tour was a given from the start. Yet, thanks to Julia of Art With Me, it became a revelation and a truly immersive journey into the lives of these artists, the struggles of their time and the reasons why their art is was it is - this experience still resonates in our minds. Thanks a million!
