we were staying in Sorrento and it is easy to get to on the train,you come out the station and it is in front of you .
you can get an english speaking guide who will go get your ticket for you and they will take you round and tell you& show you all the history

Very easy way to get to Pompeii from Naples when you want to do it on your own. Was a little hard to find the actual bus in the sea of all the other buses at the port so give yourself enough time and be sure to be back for the pick up time or you will be left behind!
