Guatape, this eastern Antioquia municipality, located an hour and a half from Medellin, opens a world of color among its streets, adorned with baseboards that tell stories of the town and its people. They also call it the interior sea of Antioquia, the Acapulco of Colombia, the interior Cartagena, Paraíso Paisa, Remanso de Paz, the heart of Antioquia's East. It was named in honor of Cacique Guatapé, an inhabitant of this territory in the pre-Hispanic period. Another name he has had is the Ceja de Guatapé. The Rock of Guatapé or Piedra del Peñol, is a monolith 220 meters high located in Guatapé (Antioquia, Colombia). The Stone of El Peñol, composed of quartz, feldspar and mica, was climbed for the first time on July 16, 1954 by an inhabitant of the area, Luis Eduardo Villegas López. in the company of Ramon Diaz and Pedro Nel Ramírez until now the stone still belongs to the Villegas family. You can now access its summit by climbing 740 steps built in the monolith.

Monica and Freddie were amazing. Monica was very knowledgeable about the location we went to and it was great that she spoke English. The food for breakfast and lunch were filling and great. Piedra del Peñol was fun to walk up all 708 steps. You do have to pay but it was only like 6 dollars each and the view is worth it. Just make sure you take a lot of breaks if you are in the best of shape. I would recommend this tour again. Thanks for making my honeymoon amazing.

The tour was very well organized and everything went according to the schedule. Our guide Marlon was very knowledgeable on the region and we felt very comfortable the entire day. The views in Guatapé are amazing and all the other stops on the tour are very much worth it as well!

This is a must do in Colombia if you like variety and you don’t mind walking. I was well informed of trip details prior to the date thanks to Olga. Ginna was a superb tour guide. I signed up for this alone and one can still feel a little alone amongst a group of strangers but with Ginna it felt like I had a big sister checking on me. She was a great balance of knowledgeable and humorous. The bus ride was as comfortable as I imagine it could be. We challenged our bodies walking the 700 steps to the top of the Peñon and enjoyed the views. I treated myself to a beer after I made this achievement and a little souvenir as a memento. The town of Guatapé was so vibrant and made for an enjoyable walk to explore. The meals included were hearty for all of the energy we used up. The boat ride at the end was the cherry on top!

It was incredible, I loved it, I was really surprised by Medellin and very motivated to continue getting to know it. If you’re someone who loves beautiful sights, a bit of adventure and to learn about other cultures, this tour is perfect for you. It was a well organized tour with each stop perfectly planned out. Our tour guide Ginna was amazing. She was attentive, accommodating, and made the whole tour a great experience. She was so knowledgeable in the culture and made learning about it very interesting. The tour is a whole day thing so plan accordingly. Overall, this tour is definitely worth the money and time spent. 10 out of 10 would definitely recommend!!!!!

We researched a number of tours to Guatape from Medellin and settled on this one based on the reviews. It was amazing. We had a great time. It was an extremely professional tour. Punctual. Exactly as advertised and our guide, Marlon, was very knowledgeable and hilarious. Bus was comfortable, clean and air-conditioned. Driver Matteo was excellent. We whole- heartedly recommend this tour! They absolutely deserve all of those stars on Trip Advisor.

It was great and convenient. Marlon was excellent. The lunch was excellent. If I can suggest you just have pesos ready for the shops and Guatape. They don’t take cards.
