Good experience, but I booked my tour from Cancun specifically because I knew Holbox is about two hours away. Long story short my tour guy picked me up at my hotel in Cancun but drove all the way to Playa del Carmen to pick three more guests. It took about 4 hours to get to Holbox. If you book your tour from Cancun, make sure to ask if the tour departs from Cancun and not Playa del Carmen or other city.

The guide, Isreal, was very nice and accommodating. The pictures that are featured about the trip are very misleading. We were under the impression that we would have beach time and see flamingos. After lunch, we were cut loose for about 75 minutes. The inhabited part of the island, (which is where you can go) is very crowded and poor. We were under the impression that it was going to be a remote eco tour kind of event and it wasn't. I would also suggest that anyone that has any back issues, not sit in the back of the van. My husband and I were knocked around a lot because of the holey roads and many speed bumps. There is a lot of travel time, for a short period on the island. If you've never been to anything like this, it is an adventure, BUT, it's not what we thought that it would be.

Tour guide brought his girlfriend and spent more time with her than the guests. Tour guide, boat driver and helper each drank upwards of ten beers on the boat and the bar. Return trip was Holbox in afternoon was nerve wracking. Boat driver drove too fast through white capped waves. Boat listed to side because too many heavy people were on one side. That should have been rectified except the tour guide was fast asleep. I was fearful that we would capsize. Watch out for Manuel, the tour guide.

I'll try to structure my review with good parts and parts to be improved:
Good parts:
1. Our Guide Herlan has been a pleasant presence, with a lot of information and doing his best that all the tourists feel good and enjoy all the trip. He knows when to speak and to leave you enjoying the views.
2. The Holbox Island is spectacular, looking like a small village in the middle of nowhere but with things to see at each corner: the houses are gorgeous painted, the hotels are part of the environment, the beach is impressive due to the sand bar that you can reach in the middle of the sea.
3. You can rent a golf car or a bike for discovering the island. We've been with the golf car and it was perfect as we've seen all the beauty of the island: iguanas, the hammocks, the wild beach, the houses etc. It's about 20 USD to rent a golf car but it's all worthy.
4. The Passion Island is really nice as is like in the middle of the sea, with all kind of birds, especially flamingos (spectacular view).

To be improved:
1. The food for lunch is not the best option. I suggest a voucher, even cheaper but to have the option to choose another food.
2. The stop at Yalahau lagoon must be different structured as there is nothing to do on the island just to swim on the cenote (which is gorgeous). At least to have the option to drink something. Ad because there is a natural reservation expect to see all kind of animals around (most of them spectacular but the island was full of holes, from snakes I think, which doesn't gives you the best feeling).
3. The road from Cancun/Playa Del Carmen is quite long and on the last part the road is not very smooth but it was all worthy.
As a final point I would recommend a smaller price for this trip, as the food included is not an option for everybody and there are chances that you don't see the flamingos (and I'm sure that many tourists choose this island for them. I did).
