Vung Tau, known as Cap Saint Jacque in French is about 125 kilometres Southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. The name means ‘anchorage’ as during the 14th and 15th centuries Vung Tau was a swamp which European trading ships visited regularly.

With 15 kilometres of coastline, Vung Tau is endowed with many sandy beaches such as Bai Truoc (Front Beach), Bai Sau (Back Beach), Bai Dua (Dua Beach)... Vung Tau also has many famous sightseeing spots such as the Great Jesus Christ Statue, the White Palace...

Located 125 kilometers southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau City is home to impressive statues, temples, gardens and bay vistas. Known as Cap Saint-Jacques under French colonization, the city was once a popular beach destination for servicemen of France and American. Famed with sandy beaches, clear blue water around the year, Vung Tau City an ideal place for people looking for an escaping trip from their hectic life.

1. Christ The King Statue
The Christ of Vung Tau Statue, also known as the Statue of Christ the King, is a remarkable landmark in Vung Tau, Vietnam. Towering at an impressive height, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and serves as a testament to the region's strong Christian heritage and spirituality. The statue was constructed in 1972 but dismantled just 2 years later. Construction resumed in 1992, on Dec 1, 1994, statue's summit was officially inaugurated. In 2012, this sacred statue was recognized as the largest Jesus statue in Asia. It is also designated as a national historical-cultural relic and holds the record for the "largest Jesus statue in Vietnam." The statue stands at an elevation of 136 meters above sea level, showcasing its grandeur and imposing dimensions. It reaches a height of 32 meters, with the outstretched arms spanning 18.4 meters. There are 834 steps to reach the sculptures on a 10-meter-high concrete pedestal & ascend 133 spiral steps leading to the statue's shoulders.
2. Thich Ca Phat Dai
The Thich Ca Phat Dai Pagoda, built between 1961 and 1963, lies on Lon Mountain. Within the monastery compound is a 6-metre tall statue of Buddha and a Zen monastery at the foot of the mountain. The dense foliage inside the compound houses a variety of birds. This path is lined with statues that display important events in the life of Gautam Buddha, and there also is a stupa and six dragon statues along the way. Pagoda lies in the harmonious combination between its architectural structure and the natural surroundings, especially the white cement construction of the giant statue of Buddha perched on a 4.5 meter high pedestal shaped like a lotus blossom.

Probably the most famous seafood restaurant in Vung Tau, Ganh Hao is something of a logistical miracle. This is one of those enormous places that churns through hundreds of diners a day, but still seems to deliver tasty seafood, as ordered, and in reasonable time. Set by the sea in the open air, Ganh Hao serves great lunch.
4. White Palace
Bach Dinh, or the White Palace of Vung Tau City is located at 4 Tran Phu Street, on the slop of Big Mountain. Standing 50 meter above the sea level, White Palace has its French name which is La Villa Blanche. Tracing back to the year of 1898, it was considered as a summer holiday villa of French Governor General Paul Doumer. This palace was named after his lovely daughter. Unfortunately, while the structure was being built, Doumer had to come back to France and became the President of France later. It was not until 1916 that it was officially used for holiday resting of some Indochina-French Governors. Once visiting the White Palace, you will be attracted by its all white appearance, which is the reason why people here call it “Bach Dinh” (“Bach” means white color in Vietnamese). Since it was designed and constructed by French, this three-floor building was strongly influenced by French and a little bit Greek style with the height of 19 meters and length of 25 meters

Thang Tam Temple is a unique spiritual & cultural tourist attraction, attracting a large number of tourists from all over the world to visit and pray. The Temple is located on Hoang Hoa Tham street, Thang Tam ward, Vung Tau city, this is a complex including Thang Tam Temple, Ngu Hanh temple & Ca Ong mausoleum Built during the reign of King Minh Mang, initially the Temple was made by bamboo & leaves, in 1835 people contributed to repair and roof tile for the temple and in 1965 the temple was restored, built solidly and kept original architectural layout Ca Ong Mausoleum is located to the right of the relic built in the same period as the Ba Ngu Hanh Temple. In the mausoleum, there is a skeleton of the giant Ca Ong that was picked up by Vung Tau fishermen about 100 years ago. The mausoleum has an ancient architecture, inside there is a large glass cabinet containing the bones of Ca Ong and corresponding to three altars. The 2 sides have 2 more altars of Ba Sau (Turtle God) and music team

Had an amazing day tour with Vincent and his driver. We saw so much. Small group of six. The seafood restaurant stop for lunch was very good. Would definitely do this tour again if I visit Veltman again.

One of the best tours! So personal! We were so lucky to have Luc as our tour guide. He shared so much history, many laughs, good stories. Great Pagodas, great Jesus, great beaches, great food, super great tour! Always feel like you're apart of the family with these tours, especially with Luc showing us around!

Outstanding tour with Luc in a private car. Luc spoke very good English and was an excellent conversationalist. We learned a tremendous amount about Vietnamese history, culture, family life and food. Most highly recommended.

Had the best day traveling to Vung Tau with TNK Travel in a modern comfortable mini bus and Min who was our guide, who did everything to make sure guests were comfortable and informed.
The day had temples, the fantastic White Palace, a delicious lunch in a clean modern restaurant, swimming .. and the absolute highlight of climbing the Jesus statue (the only one outside of Brazil that i know of). Stunning views of the surrounding seaside and township can be seen at the top of the statue.
Well done Min on keeping everyone happy and leaving Vung Tau with a bunch of great memories.
Highly recommended.

A wonderful day trip! My guide, Luc, made sure the day was pleasant and interesting. The highlight was looking out from the top of the Christ the King Statue. It requires 133 extra stairs from the top of the hill to get there, but well worth it. Luc was there with water and encouraging words all along the way. I’m so glad I took the time to go to Vung Tau!

Luc (pronounced Luke) is very nice and kind. He speaks English very well and he knows a lot of the history of Vietnam. The tour is a full day tour of the seaside city of Vung Tau and there is not a dull moment. According to our guide the area is very popular among the locals on the weekends. If the locals frequent the area you know you are at a good spot. Not touristy and not expensive. The beach is very long and the water is very warm (February). A lot of waves though and danger of rip currents but the life guards are vigilant and alert to anyone trying their luck. We visited the statue of Christ on the hill that resembles Salvator Mundi of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. There are 900 steps up the hill but with regular stops it's very doable. The tour also includes a visit to a Buddhist temple and seafood lunch at a very nice restaurant at Green Hotel. Very pleased with the tour, the tour guide and the sightseeing. Definitely recommend it.

A very worthwhile trip, our Guide Luc made it into an awesome and pleasant educational event. Not only myself, but my five grandkids were enchanted and charmed by Luc throughout the tour.
Vung Tau is beautiful, but far more so when you really understand what you are looking at.
