It was so much fun and visually sumptuous. My wife and I really enjoyed the immersive quality. Nick was a wonderful guide, and very congenial. I expected the surreal environment, but I did not expect to learn so much as well. Nice bonus. Our imaginations hadn't been that stimulated in a long time, and when we exited back out into the "real" world it took some adjusting. It was a great experience.

Grew up in the Bay Area, and this is one of the best and most unique things we’ve ever done in San Francisco. Nick was a terrific guide, and the tour was more of an experience with lots of fun ways to connect with each other - my wife, adult daughter, and me. Highly recommended

We came to the front door and were greeted by a gentleman in a fabulous costume who told us a bit about the history of the museum. He was sweet and sincere and we were very happy to have him accompany us throughout the experience. Highlights were the art, the textiles, and getting to meet the owner of the museum Gregangelo himself. We highly recommend this quintessential old school San Francisco experience.

This is an experience that is hard to put into words. From the moment you arrive to the house, you feel you are stepping into a place where weird and truth are sacred, and you have to be comfortable being a little uncomfortable. Each piece of the house is exquisite visual and physical art that is inspired by different cultures and acrobatic pieces, so on one level, you are amazed and overwhelmed trying to take in every inch of it. Then, the tour is guided as a performative story, and to keep going, you have to answer deep questions with your friends and/or strangers on the tour. This is fantastic if you are willing to open yourself to the experience! I feel closer to myself and to my friends because of it. We loved our tour, loved our guide, and would definitely like to come back again!

A lewis carroll inspired initiation ritual, participatory theater… wow. Impressive place. Well worth the price of admission. The experience was psychedelic and self reflective, fun with a group of strangers. Seeing others participate was as fun as participating myself. The tour guide had a great sense of humor but took the experience he was giving us seriously. I know it changes constantly and I don’t want to give away too much. Best to go into this with no expectations and an open mind.

This was a truly unique and enriching experience even as a solo traveler, particularly if you are willing to be curious and engage. The folks coordinating the events were available to answer questions before arriving and once on site. The way that the rooms and tour are set up, there is so much to see and think about that I imagine each tour grouping can have a different experience as they go through, based on what comes up for them.

Any of the Gregangelo Museum tours are among the most unique experiences available in San Francisco. Having been on several tours, and always been fascinated, I took my visitors on an indoor tour, “Down the Rabbit Hole”. The imagination, art, quality and uniqueness within this house and garden are unmatched and often changing. It was such fun to discover things we had never seen elsewhere. Great guide who made sure we all felt involved. Would recommend for anybody wanting a very special, unique and memorable experience.

We went to the Gregangelo Museum with deliberately limited knowledge about what to expect. I had a vague idea that it was some kind of interactive interior tour, but resisted looking at reviews (like this one!) so as to go in fresh, as unbiased as possible. My wife and i joined three strangers and enjoyed the truly fabulous interior design, and the “Facilitator” guide’s use of docent-like explanations as opportunities for probing therapeutic exercises (such as using interior props as encouragement to discover and publicly express specific stresses and personal resolutions). As an “Alice in Wonderland” fan, i appreciated occasional references to Wonderland, the Looking Glass, and the Rabbit Hole. Lots of deliberate whimsey on display.

The location is a bit off the beaten tourist tracks, but we could get there easily by Muni, SF’s under-appreciated transit system. Frankly, the admission ticket might be a tad much for normal tourists. The performance artistic tour isn’t for everyone, but it was for us. For whatever reasons, i hadn’t known about some worries of my wife until she was prompted to reveal them to our group, and such insight alone was worth the price of admission. Our guide (from Silver Spring, MD, not far from where i grew up) was engaged and experienced, using improvisational theatrical skills to enable introspection and sharing among the guests.

I think that the house interior is too precious to admit street shoes (did the owner really wear his roller skates into the house?!), and that tours should have guests change into or bring their own indoors slippers. (I live in Japan where that sort of thing is common.)

The official web site, which i browsed afterwards, is attractive and creative, but, curiously, the “Frequent Asked Questions” (sic) is empty.

We’ve been to comparable curated homes filled with idiosyncratic collections (such as House on the Rock in Wisconsin and the Museum of Jurassic Technology in Culver City, LA), and although they are quite different from each another, i’d include this alongside them as a campier alternative with active guidance. They are hard to describe, which uncategorizability is part of their charm.

Some aspects were invariably a little bit disappointing, or even forced, but overall experience was generally positive, a high-bandwidth multisensory tour cum shallow counseling. When we get a chance next time we visit the Bay Area, we hope to do the parallel outdoor tour of the same home.
