Difficult hike to say the least, be prepared for like 6 hours of incline hiking. Weather can be unpredictable to bring extra clothes, warm clothes and rain gear. Do the Fuego hike as it brings you closer to the active volcano

We went on two excursions with OX and they were both great. The guides were super helpful and knowledgeable and the gear was top notch and much appreciated!

Unfortunately did not get the experience of others on the review page. Did not expect it, I think it might be dependent on the guide. Very demoralising experience, did not feel confident at all about the trip and I was shocked by the negativity and attitude of the guides. One instructor explicitly said to a person on my tour while he was trying to take a number 2 that he was not a private tour and others could not wait for him and put extreme pressure on lots of people to hurry up and if couldn’t keep up to leave.
To pre warn you they threatened to send you back down if you are taking too long: walking, going to the loo, looking at views, eating or talking with friends. They seemed happy to send you back down the volcano without making suitable adjustments to improve experience or help you out. Additionally we had to pay before we did the trip (the full - not a deposit) and after this experience many of us are left to wonder why we paid so much. It was extremely rushed while packing and they gave us faulty equipment. (Basically broken/falling apart) For example one person on our trip had a missing strap which they had to replace with rope. This was shocking as it would have only taken a couple of minutes to exchange and this could have cause health issue or severe back problems. Alongside everyone having rips, holes and non-waterproof bags which in a very wet climate was surprising. They are not flexible about anything and very un-empathetic. They do not tell you about all the extra costs you have to pay on top of the fee they make you pay. Very disheartening experience and would not recommend. If they put more time and effort into allowing you to acclimatise they would have many more people who would have made it. It’s a real shame because it’s not necessarily a fitness issue but how your body responds to the altitude and some people take longer to adjust. The whole experience is clearly very dependent on the guide but the ones I met and experiences from others were similar and I met another guide on the tour who had the same extremely horrible attitude and I was shocked while making simple conversation with him how arrogant and just very unprofessional, negative, unenthusiastic they were!

Acatenango was amazing, we were with great guides who took us through the whole trip.

Camp site was good and cozy and the food they had for us was good.

With rainy season we didn’t get a lot of views, but the guides were all so prepared, good pacing up the volcano, and able to answer every question/problem that came up with a good attitude. Great company & hard hike still worth it in the clouds - will have to come back with OX for sunnier weather!

I fell behind from my group and the tour guides would wait behind with me at first but about halfway through they no longer slowed down to stay with me. I could no longer see or hear anyone from my group up ahead. I could’ve gotten lost. Anything could’ve happened that may have required help from someone else and I wouldn’t have had anyone around me to help. That was very irresponsible of the tour guides to do. I definitely plan on hiking Acatenango again but wouldn’t go with OX Expeditions. Also, their cabins are way too small, with basically no walk room. And the porter potties were somewhat difficult to get to and they were disgusting- like they don’t even bother cleaning them.

I bet it was one of the most fantastic experiences that I’ve ever had! The guide is very professional and they are very responsive to our need and everything. The day before departure, we had a meeting and they told us everything. And during the whole process, they take good care of every one. We can hike and follow our own pace. Their camp and cabins are also very well located. We can see Fuego erupt clearly and there is no wind and good temperature on camp. It’s not a easy hike, but the view worth it, and all the staff are considerate and helpful. Really enjoyed it!

This hike is no joke. I was skeptical but this hike humbled me! It is worth every step though. Make sure to borrow their gear if you don’t have any (the gear is great quality) and hydrate!! The food was great, the staff was amazing, the whole hike was worth it. The cabins are super comfy and cool with the windows facing the volcano. I didn’t make it to fuego or the summit (the altitude is high so make sure to listen to your body), but my partner made it to both and said it was the coolest views.

This is an unforgettable experience. The hike is tough and the guides did an excellent job at motivating and supporting all our group members, ranging from seasoned hikers to less experienced adventurers. We started our hike in the clouds but it cleared up and we had amazing views from 3pm onwards. The views are unreal. The huts you'll sleep in have excellent views of Fuego, the active volcano, and good sleeping mats and sleeping bags. The food is awesome and the portions are big! The guides were also great at making sure everyone stayed safe, went the right way and didn't get mixed up with other groups. The gear that's free to use is super decent and sets everyone up for a good time. I highly recommend OX as your operator for this Guatemalan must-do activity.

What an experience! There are many companies to choose for the Acatenango experience but OX is the absolute BEST!
Organization, price and safety were perfect!
Crew is top notch, every member was very aware and cooperative to the group. Special thanks to Miguel, Sergio and Misael, who help us and didn't left us alone hiking to the summit 💜.
