Located north-east of the heart of Tokyo, Ueno has been a perfect destination for those who desire good food and cultural exploration. What makes Ueno distinctively unique is its dynamic blend of contrasts; chaos and serenity, urban development and natural beauty, modernity and tradition, common touch and nobility.

Ueno Park is located on what was once the grounds of the largest, most prestigious temple in Edo (old Tokyo), from the the 17th to 19th century. It is one of the most beloved cherry-blossom viewing spots in Tokyo. Local Japanese and tourists flock together for shopping and eating at its nearby district Ameyoko, where you will find a countless number of unique bars and dining places.

While tasting the foods and enjoying the atmosphere of the area, you will find yourself becoming welcomed as a local in this friendly community.

Yumi was the perfect tour guide. She was friendly, approachable and full of local knowledge. The food stops were perfectly selected for us to experience a broad selection of items. Even the sudden closure of one of our stops due to a maintenance issue didn’t put her off her stride. She soon found somewhere else to go. Highly recommended

Harumi was excellent! I would highly recommend this food tour. Tip - don't eat lunch and go on an empty stomach so that you can enjoy all the food. Urno was a great place to explore, not just the food.

We really enjoyed the friendly and knowledgeable Harumi as our expert guide; she was easy to get along with and showed us restaurants and bars we would never have found- let alone gone into! - by ourselves. We loved the different tastes of local delicacies and the explanations behind each of the places we went to. Highly recommend this as a fun way to spend a half day!

Our guide was Natsumi. She was very friendly and informative. I thoroughly recommend her as your guide for your next food tour. The food tour was excellent. Natsumi did a great job at giving us a taste of several different types of food and at the same time allowing us to explore a little bit of the Ueno area. This was our first time in Japan and the food tour is a great way of experiencing a good variety of the cuisine that this wonderful country has to offer.

Mari was fantastic! Perfect selection and variety of dishes. We ended up going back to the first restaurant again because it was so good it stuck in our minds. We had one pescatarian in our group we knew would be difficult to accommodate but Mari did a great job helping her out and everyone left happy and full. This was our second tour with this company and didn’t disappoint. Thanks so much!

This food tour was outstanding. Harumi was an excellent guide. As a solo traveler I felt welcomed and included. The nigiri sushi place she brought us to, we knew it would be good bc there a line of older Japanese people waiting to get in. The dumpling place was energetic and the gyoza were tasty. Who knew that a boiled dumpling could be both simple and complex? Also, never thought melted cheese on a dumpling was a good idea, but it is! The skewer place was good. Daytime drinking and meat sticks, you can’t beat it. A small amount of walking through the lively market area near the Ueno station. I almost forgot the meat fritter, kind of like a Jamaican patty/ hand held meat pie/ hash brown. Really tasty, get the curry one and go gently on the mustard, packs a fun wasabi kick!!! Sit down sukiyaki had us both relaxed and stuffed to the gills. But don’t forget to save room for dessert, the best matcha swirl soft serve, sold not at a sweets shop but at a tea stall. Plus a mini bean pancake thing, hot off the griddle.

Go lightly on the hotel breakfast, make sure you come hungry. Harumi was so gracious. All in all, highly recommend!!!

This tour was excellent and well worth it. I ate so much food! And it was all delicious. Normally on a food tour there’s one or two things I wouldn’t like but on this everything was tasty. Yumi was a great guide and shared interesting facts about Japanese food and Japan in general! Highly recommend
