Meet up with your guide at your hotel or Toyosu Market where you will experience the energy and excitement of the early morning tuna auction. With all this walking, you learn about the market’s history and why many of Japan’s top chefs visit daily to pick up the freshest-quality ingredients. After the tour, you can stay in the market to enjoy the rest of your breakfast or lunch at your leisure.

Note*1: The tuna auction is viewed from a public space on the third floor as in the photos.

We ask that your be aware that Toyosu is a place of business. To keep fish sanitary for consumption, you cannot enter the main auction floor. The tuna auction length varies daily due.

The tour of the Toyosu auction was fantastic and made even more memorable with our guide, Hiroshi, who is so knowledgeable about all aspects of the auction. He gave us great insights into the working of the market and what to look for with the auctioneer. The experience was great and the huge ahi were a sight to behold. Hiroshi contacted me months in advance to make transportation and meeting arrangements at our hotel lobby. He put our names in for the lottery, which we did win a spot close to the ground level. It was pouring rain as we went to the Tsukiji market, but we still had fun and a great breakfast. Thanks to Hiroshi san, for sharing all your knowledge about the market, Japan and the culture, it made all the difference.

For this price, the tour was disappointing. Own transportation, limited effort from the local guide. The rainy season did not do him much justice either when we adjourned to the wet market. It was basically left to own free time to roam around. Disappointing for the tuna auction to be from viewing gallery and not directly close to the tuna fishes.

Our guide was Hakata Kazuyasu, and he did a wonderful job! He met us in our hotel lobby and with a taxi we went to the market. He had entered our names in the lottery a couple weeks ago, and we were thrilled to have a great, close-up view of the fish auction. Then he took us to the nearby wholesale markets and ended at the street, retail market. He did a great job of helping us understand the local transportation and some interesting food stories. I would highly recommend.

Miya scored my wife and I access to the lower levels of the auction available by lottery that we would not even have known about. Her coworker (he had worked at the auction for many years) gave us a tutorial of “how to buy a tuna” using hand signals to bid! Personalized service to help us locate currency machines, walked us to and thru the subway station and helped us acquire a day pass on the the subway that was so useful. All of this was completed by 9AM!!

An early start was required to be at the market in time for observing pre-auction tuna inspection…. And there were many big fish being checked out. The auction itself was an experience to behold, and the explanations really deepened our understanding of what was going on.
Our guide ‘Hero’ (Hiroshi) was knowledgeable, and most importantly kind and considerate with our two tired kids.
After leaving the auction, he helped us navigate the Tsukiji market and helped us find the yummy foods the boys had been so excited to try.
A great tour and really appreciate Hero!

It was a great experience! Yoshi, our tour guide, was very punctual, knowledgeable, very nice and entertaining to talk to! He has been around the world already and he made a very positive difference today. The auction of tuna, other fishes and vegetables/fruits were very interesting to watch. Then Yoshi helped us to catch a local bus and brought us to the old fish market in no time. In the old fish market he explained us everything about Japanese food and at the end he brought us to a Sushi restaurant which was simply amazing!

This tour was the highlight of our trip! Once confirmed, Kei reached out to me to introduce himself which was very professional.

I mentioned to him that I'd read an obscure website which mentioned the ability to apply for some "lottery" system to view the tuna auction from a lower deck. Kei figured it out and registered on our behalf; we were lucky enough to win the lottery and got a spectacular view into the auction. I could not figure out the registration for the life of me, so his support and diligence was so incredibly helpful.

I told Kei that my dad LOVES finishing shows like "Wicked Tuna" which was part of the reason we were so interested in the auction. He was so prepared and knowledgeable about the whole process as well as how the auction evolved over its history.

I am a girl who loves to learn and has endless questions... Kei was able to intelligently answer all of our questions and provide so much perspective on the auction process. He described the ratio of fresh to frozen fish they sell at the auction, the average price per unit of tuna sold and how that changes based on season, the highest price paid over time, the "new year celebration" auction dynamics, the hand gestures and roles of the different auction participants, and how the sales process goes from the fisherman to the restaurant. He had a few sheets of notes and we could tell he thoughtfully crafted his tour.

It was incredibly clear to our family that Kei put in so much effort to prepare for our adventure. We appreciated his effort so much and HIGHLY recommend this tour to anyone interested. Thank you, Kei!
