The Ibleo promontory is richly engraved by a dense hydro-geographical network. The erosive action of the water has created real canyons, among the most interesting and spectacular there is certainly the Cava Grande del Cassibile, one of the wonders of Sicily, a place where at the same time you can discover an almost uncontaminated nature and traces that man has left over the millennia.
In this impressive cleft of the plateau, the ancient Kakyparis, of which Thucydides speaks when he refers to the retreat of the Athenians in the context of the alatene events of the Peleponnesian war, in its 10km of the central part, where it reaches the width of about one thousand meters and the three hundred meters deep, it flows and continues to erode the soft Hyblean limestone with its pristine waters, forming the so-called "uruvi". Responsible are the pebbles carried by the current, in their whirling circle they crumble, the rock forming circular basins, small and deep lakes.
